Employment
- The California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKS) program helps Californians who receive temporary cash assistance to prepare for employment. Services such as child care, transportation, and work-related or training-related expenses are provided. More information is available at the county welfare department local to you.
- California's Employment Development Department (EDD) website for job seekers can help you explore career options, get ready for a job, prepare applications and resumes, and improve your interview skills. The CalJobs website helps link employer job listings and job seeker resumes.
- California Department of Social Services (CDSS) Jobs - To work for CDSS, you must submit an application and successfully pass an examination. Additional helpful resources can be found in the following websites: CDSS job postings, Employment Opportunities, and job examination announcements.
- California's State Personnel Board website helps individuals who are interested in becoming a state employee (six step process) for non-State employees) or want to search online for vacant state jobs throughout California.
- The Food Stamp Employment and Training Program (FSET) is for Californian's who receive food stamps each month, but not monthly cash assistance under the CalWORKs program. Participants become involved in activities such as job clubs, job search, workfare, vocational training, basic education (including English as a second language) and drug/alcohol rehabilitation. If you are between the ages of 17 and 50, you must meet the Able-bodied Adult Without Dependents (ABAWD) work requirement. To do this you must work 20 hours per week in an approved activity such as vocational training, basic educational program or community service. For more information and to apply for these services, contact your local county welfare office.
