Pacific Island VR staff visit WTC
(September 16, 2008) Recently, the director and two staff members from the VR agency in Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands visited the Workforce & Technology Center. (The Northern Mariana Islands, a commonwealth in political union with the US, are located in the North Pacific Ocean between Hawaii and the Philippines.)

Looking for a Future with Project Search
(September 3, 2008) Eleven Baltimore City Public School (BCPS) high school students with disabilities will spend their last year in school at The University of Maryland Baltimore where they will rotate through real work assignments in departments that include Parking & Commuter Services, the School of Law, Facilities Management and Public Safety. They are part of the first Baltimore-based Project Search, a national program that combines academics and real-work experiences to prepare students with disabilities for positions in diverse and skilled careers.
Casting a vote: DORS Open House shares tips for people with disabilities
(August 18, 2008) Though voting machines are generally considered accessible to individuals with disabilities, there are a few extra considerations for voters who are deaf, deaf/blind and hard of hearing. To help consumers gain equal access to their day at the polls, Kalpana Varia and Tonja Trappiel, DORS counselors for the deaf, recently hosted a Voter Education & Registration Open House at DORS Baltimore, Park Ave. office.
Summer Jobs Are Real Work
(July 31, 2008) Antjuan Dean, a summer YouthWorks student on the street cleaning crew at the Charles Village Community Benefits District, quickly learned one of the perks of getting to work earlier than everyone else: “I get the good broom,” he smiled.
Changes in Independent Living Services
(July 1, 2008) DORS no longer provides independent living (IL) services at DORS offices, except for older individuals (age 55+) who have a significant vision impairment or are blind. For all other individuals, independent living services are available at six Centers for Independent Living (CILs) throughout the state.
