NIT members are designated by their Assistant Secretaries and/or Administrators to serve as representatives of their agency to the Coastal America partnership. The NIT is chaired by the Director of the Coastal America Coordinating Office and meets monthly. This organizational structure enables early identification of policy issues and conflicts at the local, regional, and national levels and encourages their timely resolution of these issues by senior-level policy makers. The NIT is responsible for reviewing policy issues identified by Regional Implementation Teams and to develop and forward consensus recommendations to the Principals Group. In addition, the NIT members represent their respective agencies at national coordination meetings; provide advice to the Coastal America Coordination Office; represent Coastal America in various forums; participate on special work groups as necessary; explore and facilitate coordination of national, inter-regional and other large-scale projects; and, provide assistance to regional public education and outreach efforts to facilitate public awareness, support and involvement.
