PPRESIDENTIAL COMMUNICATIONS (SS3)
MISSION
To provide premier communication systems that enable the president to lead the nation effectively.
FUNCTIONS
- Provide premier communications systems which support the commander-in-chief in times of peace or crisis.
- Modernize and integrate commercial off-the-shelf (COTS), government off-the-shelf (GOTS), and legacy communications systems to meet the communications requirements of the commander-in-chief.
- Ensure telecommunications and related support to the president,vice president, White House senior staff, National Security Council, United States secret service and others as directed by the White House Military Office.
- Establish and employ life cycle modernization initiatives for all presidential communications support capabilities.
- Instill a systems engineering discipline into project acquisition efforts.
- Establish an operational, systems and technical architecture
- Support the White House Communications Agency's (WHCA) input into the planning, programming, budgeting and execution process in order to ensure requirements are appropriately prioritized and funded based on established goals.
- Advise DISA, Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), and WHCA senior leaders of the status of acquisition projects.
- Identify promising leading edge technologies that may be used to provide effective, efficient, and innovative solutions.
- Monitor and leverage technology infusion efforts of DISA, other agencies, and military departments as appropriate.
- Ensure system security and accreditation actions for new systems as required.
- Ensure operator training occurs for new systems as required.
- Ensure new systems have received thorough operational utility assessments prior to acquisitions.
- Ensure logistics planning adequately supports operations and maintenance prior to transitioning systems to WHCA.
- Manage contracts as required to ensure available operational capability.
- Manage and execute budgets as required at the project and portfolio level.
