2003 Flight Forecast - Program Rules and Regulations

OFFICIAL RULES - NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. OPEN TO U.S. RESIDENTS, WHO ARE TEACHERS OF STUDENTS IN GRADES K-12 AT AN ACCREDITED SCHOOL LOCATED IN THE UNITED STATES. VOID WHERE PROHIBITED.

1. HERE'S HOW TO PARTICIPATE: Contest Registration Period - begins 8:00:01 AM ET September 26, 2003 and ends on 11:59:59 PM ET November 2, 2003. Contest Entry Period - begins 8:00:01 AM ET November 3, 2003 and ends on 11:59:59 PM ET November 17, 2003. To register online during the Contest Registration Period: If you are a teacher of students in grades Kindergarten through 12, Visit www.centennialofflight.gov and follow the online registration instructions. You must include all information requested on the online registration form. You may register only once, but may include more than one class in the program. By submitting the registration, you certify that you are a teacher at an accredited school in the United States, and that you are eligible to represent that school in this online educational program. Advance registration is required for participation in the program. Once registered, you may enter during the Contest Entry Period by inputting your students. guesses (including approximately 5 elements) as to what the exact weather conditions will be at Wright Brothers National Memorial on December 17, 2003, where a re-enactment of the Wright brothers. first powered flight will take place 100 years to the minute later. Forecasts will be collected in three grade groupings: K-4, 5-8 and 9-12. The complexity of the forecast increases at each higher grade grouping. Visit www.centennialofflight.gov for specific entry instructions per each grade grouping. Normal Internet access and usage charges imposed by your on-line service will apply. Sponsor will not acknowledge receipt of entries.
2. PRIZES: Grand Prize (3 - One per grade grouping). First Prize (9 - Three per grade grouping). Second Prize (21 - Seven per grade grouping). Estimated value of all prizes: $5,850. Prizes to be determined.
3. JUDGING: Winners will be determined on or about December 18, 2003, based on the actual recorded weather data for Kitty Hawk which will be used to determine the most accurate forecasts in each grade grouping. If two or more single forecasts have every field correct, then the tie will be broken based upon which forecast was submitted with the earliest timestamp. If no single forecast has every field correct, then the most accurate will be determined based upon an algorithm that weights the fields according to difficulty. (Please note that December 17, 2003 must end in order to determine several of the forecast conditions, so the determination of accuracy will not begin until the next day.) All prizes will be awarded, provided a sufficient number of eligible entries are received. Winners will be notified by email or mail by December 22, 2003. Prizes are not transferable and no substitutions are allowed. Return of any prize or prize notification as undeliverable may result in disqualification and alternate determination. No responsibility or liability is assumed for damages, losses or injury resulting from acceptance or use of any prize.
4. GENERAL RULES: By participating in this contest, entrants and winners release sponsor and its parents, affiliates, subsidiaries, officers, agents, employees, public relations agencies, the federal government and all others associated with the development and execution of the contest, from and against any and all liability with respect to or in any way arising from the contest and/or acceptance or use of prize, including, without limitation, liability for personal injury, damages or loss. Sponsor reserves the right at its sole discretion to disqualify any individual that tampers or attempts to tamper with the entry process or the operation of the contest or website; violates the Official Rules; or acts in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner, or with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other person. Sponsor, its agencies and the federal government are not responsible for technical, hardware or software malfunctions, telephone failures of any kind, lost or unavailable network connections, or failed, incorrect, inaccurate, incomplete, garbled or delayed electronic communications whether caused by the sender or by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilized in this contest which may limit the ability to participate or by any human error which may occur in the processing of the entries in this contest. Sponsor reserves the right to cancel the contest if it becomes technically corrupted, and determine winners based on all eligible entries received prior to cancellation. Entrants agree to be bound by these Official Rules and the decisions of the judges. Entrants/winners acknowledge and agree that their entries become the property of Sponsor. Acceptance of prize by winners constitutes permission to use the winners' names, likenesses and school names for promotional, website and advertising/marketing purposes without further compensation, except where prohibited by law. No information regarding entries or judging will be disclosed.
5. ELIGIBILITY: The contest is open to U.S. residents, who are teachers of students in grades K-12 at an accredited school located in the United States. This offer is void where prohibited and subject to all federal, state and local laws.
