First Flight Centennial CommissionThe North Carolina First Flight Centennial Commission's mandate is to "develop and plan activities to commemorate the centennial of the first flight and other historical events related to the development of powered flight." The Commission includes the Governors of North Carolina and Ohio, the Chair of the U.S. Centennial of Flight Commission, and leaders from throughout North Carolina.

The Commission's fundamental task is to remind the world what a magnificent achievement the first flight was; to educate the public on what flight has meant to the world; and to commemorate that achievement in North Carolina, the United States and throughout the world. This will be done through events, educational activities and partnerships with all who want to join in celebrating a century of flight.
