This graph includes two lines that show the change in the LDL:HDL cholesterol ratio with increasing intakes of saturated and trans fatty acids. Trans fat intake ranged from 0.5 to 10 percent of energy. Saturated fat intake ranged from 4 to 10 percent of energy. The magnitude of the effect on the LDL:HDL ratio is greater for trans fatty acids compared to saturated fatty acids, at the same percentage of energy.

Solid line represents the best-fit regression for trans fatty acids. Dotted line represents the best-fit regression for saturated fatty acids.
