    “PEDAL POWER: SCIENCE AND HISTORY OF BIKES”
    features vintage bicycles and display panels.  Exhibition prepared by the American Museum of Science and Energy.  AMSE  Lobby

  • Sept 13 - Jan 2
    “Road to Discovery: A Fortunate Fossil Find”.  The exhibit will introduce visitors to the story of how the Gray Fossil Site was discovered by TN state road crews, the process of excavating fossils in the field and preparing them in the lab, as well as fossil displays of all the unique animals and plants that make up this unique Miocene ecosystem, approximately 4.5-7 million years old.

  • Sept. 20Amazing Feats of Aging  - Jan. 18, 2009 
    “AMAZING FEATS OF AGING”
    showcases highly interactive exhibits on the biology of aging, with special emphasis on comparative aging, healthy aging and aging of the brain.   This exhibition appropriate for K-8 and all ages.  Amazing Feats of Aging was created and is toured by the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry.  The exhibit was funded by a Science Education Partnership Award from the National Center for Research Resources at the National Institutes of Health.  The exhibit’s national tour is sponsored by MetLife Fourndation

    Senior Moments at AMSE - PAINTING YOUR FINANCIAL PICTURE FOR LONG TERM CARE by Clark Denton (Metlife) - Clark Denton will be talking about the importance of long-term care as it relates to your financial planning picture. Mr. Denton has worked for MetLife in Oak Ridge for over 15 years. He received his BS degree in Accounting from Carson-Newman College and his MBA in marketing from Mercer University.He is certified in long-term care by the state of Tennessee. Mr. Denton also is a Registered Investment Advisor and currently manages over $100 million dollars for clients in Oak Ridge and surrounding areas. He also has a office in West Knoxville."

    “SMITHSONIAN MAGAZINE’S MUSEUM DAY”
      to recognize subscribers to and potential readers of the publication.  These participants must present their one-day only, special value coupon for admission to the American Museum of Science and Energy, a Smithsonian Institution Affiliate member.

    Senior Moments at AMSE - “ARTHRITIS 101” presented by Stacy Woodley, Branch Director, East Tennessee Area of the Arthritis Foundation.   This is the first program for ‘Senior Citizens (65+) Free Admission AMSE Tuesdays’ in conjunction with “Amazing Feats of Aging” traveling exhibition now showing at AMSE.  “Arthritis 101” will be an introduction to the different kinds of arthritis, their effects on the body, and the role of the Arthritis Foundation in research, prevention, programs and ways to get involved.  10 a.m. in AMSE Auditorium

    “Y-12 UPDATE”
     presented by Darrel Kohlhorst, B&W Y-12 President and General Manager, who is the speaker for the Dick Smyser Community Lecture Series sponsored by Friends of Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The public is encouraged to attend.  7:00 pm in AMSE Auditorium

  • "Secret City Oak Ridge Driving Tour" Discover WWWII’s Secret City with the Oak Ridge Convention and Visitors Bureau official Oak Ridge Driving Tour, now available from AMSE’s Discovery Shop.
    This newly revised driving tour, beginning and ending in front of the Oak Ridge Visitors Welcome Center and American Museum of Science & Energy, includes many notable stops such as historic Jackson Square, the International Friendship Bell, University of Tennessee Arboretum, and Oak Ridge Marina.
    The Oak Ridge Driving Tour kit is comprised of a colorful map and audio commentary on your choice of cassette or CD.
    CD's and cassette can be purchased for $12. If the cassette or CD is returned with receipt, the buyer will receive a $7 refund.




AMSE is open from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Mon. - Sat.; 1 - 5 p.m. Sun.
Starting September 2005 - New Admission Rates:
Adults $5.00; Seniors (65+) $4.00; Children (6-17) $3.00 and children 5 and under free. Group Rates Available for 20 or more.
AMSE MEMBERSHIPS: Family $35, Grandparent $30 and Individual $25 for unlimited museum visits for 12 months from date of purchase, monthly member newsletter, special exhibition previews, discount in the Discovery Shop and on summer camps, and free admission to 285 museums that participate in the ASTC Passport Program.
AMSE is a member of the Smithsonian Institution Affiliation Program.
