a tour of the Technology Center in Racine. Herb secured $5 million for portable
heating and air conditioning for Army field use, technology developed by Modine,
as part of the FY04 Department of Defense Appropriations Bill.
Herb visits employees at the Bay Area Community Health Partnership. Herb
worked to secure $650,000 in federal funding in the last budget for the
Partnership, which is working with colleges in the Green Bay area to address the
healthcare worker shortage in Wisconsin by training more health professionals.

Frank Robinson, 69 years old, speaks to the Senate Special Committee on Aging on the importance of older workers
and the experience they bring to the job. “I don’t think retirement is good for people,” claimed Robinson at the
hearing. “I am a doer.”

At his first Special Committee on Aging hearing as Ranking Member, Herb calls for prescription drug system reform, including
the establishment of a safe and legal system of drug reimportation. Sen. Gordon Smith (R-OR), Chairman of the Committee, looks on.
Herb helps launch the "Back from the Brink" campaign to recover 15 endangered species. The effort is
based on a Wisconsin model that provides voluntary incentives for landowners to create habitat for
endangered species. This model has helped rehabiliate the Karner Blue Butterfly in Wisconsin.
Herb meets with Wisconsin Veterans. Herb has worked to ensure that Veterans programs are
properly funded in the budget.
Herb meets with law enforcement officers in Eau Claire. Herb secured federal
funding to help the City and County of Eau Claire upgrade their Emergency
Communication Center with state-of-the-art technology.
Herb meets with employees at the Kenosha Community Health Center following a
tour of the facility. A member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, each year
Herb works to increase federal funding for community health centers across the
state and nationwide.
Herb announces $447,000 in federal funding for the construction of affordable
housing units in Madison. The funds will help the City of Madison construct
approximately 60 affordable homes for low-income residents.
Wisconsin members of the National Farmers Union present Herb with the "Golden Triangle Award" for his work on behalf of dairy farmers, including his efforts to provide a safety net for dairy farmers when milk prices drop. The award is the highest honor given by the National Farmers Union.
