Subcommittee on Space and Aeronautics

In general, the Subcommittee handles issues related to civilian aviation and U.S. space activity. This includes the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), commercial space activities within the Department of Transportation and the Department of Commerce and the aviation R&D activities of the Federal Aviation Administration. Recently the Subcommittee has dealt with the next generation of air traffic control, NASA aeronautics programs and NASA's Vision for Space Exploration.

Subcommittee on Technology and Innovation

The Subcommittee handles issues related to the technological competitiveness of the U.S. It has jurisdiction over surface transportation research at the Department of Transportation, R&D programs at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, R&D programs at the Department of Homeland Security, and the legal framework for competitiveness and technology policy. Recently, the Subcommittee has studied standards for voting machines, strengthening U.S. manufacturing, transportation research and border security R&D.

Subcommittee on Energy and Environment

The Subcommittee handles issues related to environmental science and U.S. energy policy. tIt oversees civilian R&D programs within he Department of Energy (DOE), including basic energy research, energy R&D, demonstration and commercialization programs for fossil, renewable, and nuclear energy, and conservation; R&D programs at the National Oceanic and AAtmospheric dministration (NOAA); and research at the Environmental Protection Agency. Recent issues before the Subcommittee include NOAA satellite programs, the clean coal program, energy research, technologies to mitigate climate change and the future of DOE's national laboratories.
