12-3-14: The Jets scored the first 10 points of Monday night’s loss to the visiting Miami Dolphins. The first score of the game came on Greg Salas’s first rush since 2011. He ran for 20 yards on the final play of New York’s 85-yard drive. Unfortunately, the Jets’ passing game was very poor as Geno Smith threw for just 65 yards, as his team could not hold onto the lead.
11-26-14: The Jets did not look good in Detroit as they took on the Buffalo Bills. Although the game was moved due to snow in Buffalo, the Jets continued to struggle on the road. The 2-9 Jets are winless in their five games away from home this season. Fortunately, they will have a full week to rest, as they will host the Miami Dolphins on the Monday after Thanksgiving.
11-19-14: During the Jets’ bye in Week 11, Rex Ryan was fined $100,000 for his profanity after beating the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Jets will begin their road-heavy schedule with a Sunday afternoon game at Buffalo in Week 12. They will play the Bills and Miami Dolphins before playing two non-divisional games. Then, New York will finish the season hosting the New England Patriots and visiting Miami.
11-12-14: The Jets finally ended their long losing streak, as they defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers, 20-13. Heading into Sunday, New York had forced just three turnovers in its first nine games of the season. Then, in the Jets’ 20-13 victory over the Steelers, they forced four Pittsburgh turnovers. In the contest, Michael Vick also became the first quarterback in league history with at least 6,000 career rushing yards.
11-5-14: The Jets only scored in one quarter on Sunday, as they fell to the Kansas City Chiefs, 24-10. On the bright side, Percy Harvin caught 11 passes for 129 yards. Michael Vick completed 21 of his 28 passing attempts for 196 yards and a touchdown, but a head injury forced him out of the game. Third-string quarterback Matt Simms replaced him for part of the fourth quarter.
10-29-14: Although the Jets scored 17 points in the second quarter on Sunday, they committed a whopping six turnovers in their 43-23 loss to the Buffalo Bills in New Jersey. After Geno Smith played terribly and left the game due to a right shoulder injury, Rex Ryan announced Michael Vick will start in Week 9 against the Kansas City Chiefs.
10-21-14: On Thursday, the Jets dropped their sixth consecutive game, as the New England Patriots blocked Nick Folk’s potential game-winning field goal. New York will look to build on its strong performance, as the team plays on the next three Sundays. During the weekend, the Jets improved their team by acquiring Percy Harvin from the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for a conditional draft pick.
10-14-14: The Jets allowed the Denver Broncos to score in all four quarters on Sunday, as New York fell, 31-17. Geno Smith threw for 190 yards and two touchdowns, and tight end Jace Amaro caught 10 passes for 68 yards and a touchdown. Eric Decker, who was dealing with a hamstring injury, brought in Smith’s other touchdown.
10-7-14: Neither Geno Smith nor Michael Vick looked good on Sunday in the Jets’ 31-0 loss at the hands of the San Diego Chargers. New York barely scratched across 150 yards in the game while Philip Rivers threw for almost 300 yards. Rex Ryan plans on starting Geno Smith again this upcoming week against the Denver Broncos.
10-1-14: Eric Decker’s hamstring injury had been hampering him for the last few weeks, but he played the majority of the team’s snaps on Sunday against the Detroit Lions. In addition, Geno Smith threw him an 11-yard touchdown pass, which was the only score of the third quarter at MetLife Stadium. However, the Jets could not get the victory after a bad first half.
9-25-14: Monday Night Football did not treat the Jets very well. They hosted the Chicago Bears and were down by 14 points very quickly. Although Geno Smith racked up more than 300 yards and connected on a touchdown to Jeremy Kerley, the quarterback threw multiple interceptions and was sacked three times in New York’s 27-19 loss.
9-17-14: The Jets fell to 1-1 with their loss in Green Bay on Sunday. They almost tied the game with five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, but Geno Smith’s impressive touchdown pass to Jeremy Kerley was nullified by a timeout called by offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg. He looked to be signaling to Rex Ryan and not the referee because the rule states that the coordinator cannot call a timeout.
9-10-14: Chris Ivory and the Jets had a strong game on Sunday to open the season. Ivory’s 71-yard touchdown run was one of the longest in franchise history, and it helped New York win, 19-14. The Jets took advantage of the Oakland Raiders’ struggles on the East Coast to start 1-0 for the fourth consecutive season.
9-4-14: The Jets finished the preseason with an even 2-2 record after falling to the Philadelphia Eagles by 30 points last Thursday. However, a Jets player stole the headlines off the field last week. Cornerback Dimitri Patterson released a statement refuting the AWOL allegations, but the team suspended him for the remainder of the preseason and then released him.
8-26-14: Geno Smith and Matt Sims had almost identical stat lines on Friday against the New York Giants. Smith completed nine of his 14 pass attempts for 137 yards, and Sims completed nine of his 14 pass attempts for 106 yards. Although the Jets fell in this contest, Smith, Sims and Michael Vick each threw a touchdown. This loss was the Jets’ first of the preseason.
8-19-14: With their 25-17 victory in Cincinnati on Saturday, the Jets moved to 2-0 on the preseason. A Demario Davis strip-sack of Matt Scott allowed Calvin Pryor to recover the ball at the Bengals’ 19-yard line early in the second quarter. Soon after, Bilal Powell scored the Jets’ first touchdown of the day. Geno Smith and Michael Vick each scored a touchdown to give New York the win.
8-14-14: A couple days before the Jets’ preseason opener against the visiting Indianapolis Colts, coach Rex Ryan told reporters that he expects Chris Johnson to share carries with Chris Ivory and Bilal Powell this season. Ivory carried the ball seven times before leaving the game with a rib injury while Powell did not receive a touch. However, Johnson and Michael Vick led a second-quarter touchdown drive in the 13-10 win. Unfortunately, on Sunday, rookie cornerback Dexter McDougle tore the ACL in his left knee, ending his season.
8-5-14: The Jets’ pass rush was hurt by linebacker Jermaine Cunningham’s injury during Saturday night’s scrimmage. He suffered a torn Achilles tendon and is out for the 2014 season. At least New York has the entire preseason to test out some different defensive packages. As for the offense, Geno Smith will start over Michael Vick in the Jets’ preseason opener Thursday against the visiting Indianapolis Colts.
7-30-14: The New York Jets already boast a stout overall defense and solid pass rush, but made sure to increase the depth and competition in that area by bringing in veteran defensive end Jason Babin this past week. Babin is 34 years old and nearing the end but still seemed serviceable with the Jaguars last year. Offensive guard Willie Colon’s stay on the camp PUP list was short, as he was activated on the 27th of July. Colon’s health gives a solid New York o-line a boost in terms of continuity heading into the preseason. Likely fans of Colon’s return are running backs Chris Johnson and Chris Ivory, who have gotten a step closer to knowing their exact roles in the offense. Gang Green recently confirmed Ivory would indeed fill-in as the team’s primary goal-line option, with Johnson likely starting off with lead back duties.
7-15-14: The story of the summer so far for the Jets has been the quarterback competition that apparently doesn’t exist, as well as new running back Chris Johnson’s exact role with the team. Michael Vick hasn’t yet done much to earn a real chance to unseat starter Geno Smith under center, but a potential battle at quarterback could be born when the Jets open up camp for their veterans on July 23rd. Chris Johnson has once again declared he feels he’s still capable of rushing for over 2,000 yards (he did exactly that in 2009), but no one really knows what his role is going to be. Johnson is tentatively expected to be New York’s main early down runner, but is almost certain to lose carries to Chris Ivory and possibly a mixture of Bilal Powell and Daryl Richardson, as well.
6-5-14: The Jets recently added Daryl Richardson to their running back corps, who was surprisingly released by the Rams on May 15th. The move was especially solid with Mike Goodson being a no-show at OTAs. With Goodson on his way out of New York, the versatile Richardson may find a way to stick on the final roster. Bigger news in New York, however, is the potential quarterback battle between Geno Smith and Michael Vick. Head coach Rex Ryan has said that Smith will be hard to beat out”, although reports suggest Vick “definitely” has a shot to start. Their ongoing competition should be the storyline to watch of New York’s preseason.
5-19-14: With a solid showing in free agency already under their belt, the New York Jets entered the 2014 NFL Draft trying to nail down a stud defensive back and an offensive playmaker. Let’s break down their 2014 draft class and see how they did with their bigger needs:

Few teams made splashy picks more often in this year’s draft, and Gang Green really didn’t waste much time in doing so. With most of the top corners gone at 18 overall, they opted for stud safety Calvin Pryor, who is a bruising hitter with high upside in coverage. Pryor alone should assist the pass defense, but will also provide a menacing hitter over the middle.
Switching to offense, New York nailed down it’s other big need by landing an impact level tight end in Jace Amaro. While not an elite athlete, Amaro is fluid enough and offers good size and excellent fundamentals as a pass catcher. He should have little trouble unseating the plodding Jeff Cumberland at the top tight end spot.
The Jets only continued to amaze from there, snagging two quality wide receiver prospects in Jalen Saunders and Shaq Evans, while landing possibly one of the top steals in the draft with rush linebacker Trevor Reilly in round seven.
5-9-14: The New York Jets were rumored to be interested in a stud cornerback or big play target for the offense, but ultimately picked one of the draft’s top safeties in Calvin Pryor with the #18 overall selection in the 2014 NFL Draft. While Rex Ryan will still be on the hunt for his next corner, Pryor is a fine consolation prize as a hard-hitting safety with good size, solid instincts and some considerable upside. He’ll help stop the run and be a bone-crusher over the middle of the field right away, and could in time develop into a complete safety that excels in coverage, as well. Considering all of the positive adjustments the Jets already made on offense, attacking a position of need on defense was a solid way to kick off their run in the 2014 NFL Draft.
4-28-14: The New York Jets have done a pretty solid job beefing up their offense in free agency this year. However, they probably still need at least one more big play-maker at wide receiver or tight end. Jeff Cumberland is a plodder at tight end, so somehow landing a stud like Eric Ebron would be amazing, while Gang Green should also consider special talents at receiver like Marqise Lee and Kelvin Benjamin. Of course, getting better isn’t just about offense in New York, as the Jets have a hole at one of their starting corner spots. They should look at corner early in the 2014 NFL Draft, with guys like Darqueze Dennard and Kyle Fuller somewhere near the top of their list.
4-18-14: The battle for New York’s quarterback position between Geno Smith and Michael Vick begins against the Indianapolis Colts in week one of preseason action. Gang Green takes it to Cincinnati to take on the Bengals in week two, with week three being a battle of New York with Eli Manning and the Giants going to battle in the Big Apple. Smith and Vick will likely split time in their first two contests, with the hope that the starter would be revealed for week three against the Giants. The Jets close out the preseason on August 28th with a potentially interesting battle, as Vick (if he’s still playing) could face his former team in the Philadelphia Eagles.
4-7-14: Mark Sanchez being cut by the Jets made little noise thanks to a productive free agency run for Gang Green elsewhere, as they upgraded over Sanchez with quarterback Michael Vick and spiced up their passing game with versatile threat, Eric Decker. Decker should help repair a receiving corps that was woefully inconsistent in 2013 and bid farewell to the underperforming Santonio Holmes. Vick comes in to push inconsistent second-year passer Geno Smith, and could easily end up being the starting quarterback for the New York Jets come week one. New York also took care of some depth needs at corner and on the offensive line, but will need to acquire a stud corner in the draft after cutting Antonio Cromartie and failing to land a top-shelf cornerback to replace him.
3-21-14: The Jets had one of the better defenses in the NFL a year ago. Unfortunately, they couldn’t escape the murky waters of mediocrity thanks to rookie quarterback Geno Smith and an inconsistent offense. While it’s not yet clear if they’re firmly backing Smith for 2014 or not, Gang Green has at least made an effort to make life easier on whoever is under center come week one. The huge splash of former Broncos wide receiver Eric Decker says that loudly enough - as does moving on from the underperforming Santonio Holmes. On the flip-side, New York cut loose starting corner Antonio Cromartie in order to land a big name cornerback, but whiffed and came away with nothing. Going forward, the Jets will hope to still snag a new starting corner (or bring back Cromartie), while also continuing to improve their lethargic offense.
12-31-13: Geno Smith played mistake-free football and helped the Jets to their second win in a row in week 17, as they played spoiler and kept the division rival Miami Dolphins out of the playoffs with a 20-7 win. New York picked off Ryan Tannehill three times en route to getting to 8-8 and helping head coach Rex Ryan keep his job.
12-24-13: While some were worried about the pending future of head coach Rex Ryan, the Jets were simply concerned with getting a win in week 16. Geno Smith played like a veteran, leading the Jets back from an early 10-0 hole with three touchdowns and over 250 total yards as New York took care of the Cleveland Browns at home, 24-13.
12-17-13: Chris Ivory ran for 66 yards and defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson punched in a gimmicky touchdown, but New York couldn’t generate enough offense to keep up with Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers. Newton played mistake-free football, as he passed for 273 yards and one touchdown in New York’s 30-20 road loss.
12-10-13: Geno Smith ended his touchdown drought and was surprisingly effective in week 14, as the Jets stood their ground and stayed alive in the wild card playoff race with a solid 37-27 home win. Chris Ivory did the rest of the damage on the ground, as New York’s offense had much better flow than in recent weeks.
12-3-13: Geno Smith continued his horrid play in week 13, and despite the Jets still being in the game against the Miami Dolphins, was finally benched. Matt Simms entered with hopes to spark New York’s drowning offense, but he couldn’t get anything going as Gang Green fell to the Miami Dolphins at home,
11-26-13:
Geno Smith continued his rookie struggled in week 12, as he turned the ball over three times in a 19-3 road loss to the Baltimore Ravens. After taking a 3-0 lead, Smith and co. simply couldn’t take care of the ball or put any more points on the board in a dispiriting loss that dropped them to 5-6.
11-19-13: Geno Smith continued his rookie season if erratic play and inconsistency, and he turned the ball over four times and was even eventually benched in an embarrassing 37-14 road loss. The division rival Buffalo Bills had their way with Smith and had this one decided early. Running back Chris Ivory was the lone bright spot, as he nearly ran for 100 yards and found the end-zone on the ground.
11-5-13: Chris Ivory clearly had something to prove to his old team. Ivory put the Jets’ offense on his back in week nine, rushing for an impressive 139 yards and a touchdown on the ground, as the Jets shocked the normally high-powered Saints with a 26-20 win. New York’s defense was active all day, as they registered two sacks and two interceptions, while making Drew Brees work for every single yard he got.
10-30-13: Geno Smith said good-bye to any progress he had made in recent weeks, as he absolutely imploded in an embarrassing 49-9 road loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. Smith threw two picks and was simply ineffective throughout this one. Andy Dalton was the exact opposite for the Bengals, as he shredded New York’s normally solid defense for five touchdowns to send the Jets to 4-4 on the year.
10-22-13: New York overcame a 21-10 deficit early and pulled a tough one out in overtime against the Patriots thanks to a fortunate penalty and a Nick Folk field goal in overtime, giving the Jets a 30-27 win. Geno Smith bounced back from a dreadful week six performance and an early pick-six in this one to account for two touchdowns, while running back Chris Ivory returned to the top of New York’s depth chart to churn out 104 tough rushing yards off of 34 carries as New York got the win and ascended to 4-3 on the season and just a game out of first place in the AFC East.
10-15-13:
Some people thought Geno Smith’s flawless performance in week five on the road against the Atlanta Falcons might be too good to be true. It was true last week, but for the long haul they may have been right. Smith reverted to his old ways at home against an 0-4 Steelers team, as he took three sacks and tossed two costly interceptions in a 19-6 loss. It wasn’t all Smith’s fault, however, as New York simply couldn’t get anything going on offense, while converting less than 30% of their third downs.
10-8-13: The New York Jets weren’t expected to give the Atlanta Falcons much of a fight in week five. After all, the Falcons were a 1-3 home team with more talent and far more desperation. But that’s not the way it went. Instead, rookie passer Geno Smith played the best game of his career, as he tossed three touchdowns to no interceptions, while completing 80% of his passes. In fact, Smith even led the Jets on a heroic final drive after Matt Ryan put the Falcons up, 28-27. Smith’s flawless late-game execution allowed a Nick Folk field goal to give the Jets the 30-28 win as time expired, lifting the Jets to an unlikely 3-2 start.
10-1-13: The New York Jets entered week four as a surprise 2-1 team, but never really stood a chance on the road against the Tennessee Titans. Jake Locker lit them up for three scores in the first half en route to a 38-13 blowout that sent the Jets to 2-2 on the year. New York was able to run the ball decently via Bilal Powell’s 66 rushing yards on just 14 carries, but in the end they simply could not survive the ineffective play and turnovers of rookie passer Geno Smith. The hero in week three, Smith regressed horribly against Tennessee, throwing two picks and losing two fumbles, while taking five sacks. Little used tight end Jeff Cumberland scored the only touchdown for the Jets in this one on a one-yard reception in the fourth quarter.
9-18-13: In what was arguably the ugliest game of week two, the New York Jets fell to the Patriots by the score of 13-10. The Jets managed to run effectively on a solid Patriots’ front line, but simply couldn’t establish any type of consistency in the passing game. Rookie quarterback Geno Smith appeared to miss reliable slot man Jeremy Kerley in this one, as he tossed three interceptions - all of which were hauled in by cornerback Aqib Talib.
9-10-13: The New York Jets got absolutely no respect heading into their week one matchup with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but ultimately got the last laugh with an 18-17 win thanks to a late Nick Folk field goal. It was the NFL debut for rookie quarterback Geno Smith, who definitely took his lumps, but ended up coming through in the clutch by helping to put the Jets in position to win at the end. The Bucs pretty much gave away the game, however, with a silly penalty by linebacker Lavonte David, which helped the Jets get into field goal position. The Jets head to New England to take on Tom Brady and the Patriots in week 2.
9-4-13: The Jets have named Geno Smith as their starting quarterback for their season opener against Tampa Bay on Sunday.

9-2-13: The New York Jets signed veteran Brady Quinn, who was released Saturday by the Seahawks. They also released Graham Harrell, who they had been signed just 3 days ago.
8-27-13: After Geno Smith threw three first half interceptions on Sunday against the Giants, it looked like Mark Sanchez was all but in as Jets starting QB. Then he was injured in the 4th quarter leaving the Jets QB situation up in the air. Sanchez went for an MRI on his buried right shoulder and will not play on Thursday in the Jets preseason finale. It's not yet known whether he will be able to play in the Jets opener against Tampa Bay. If not, Geno Smith will most likely get the start despite his poor performance against the Giants.
8-26-13: Wide receiver Braylon Edwards has been released by the Jets.
8-24-13: Santonio Holmes has been taken off the physically unable to perform list after passing a team physical. He is now eligible to practice.
8-22-13: The Jets have announced that Geno Smith will be the starting QB for Saturday's game against the New York Giants.
8-20-13: THe Jets rebounded from their preseason opening loss, thrashing the Jaguars 37-13 at MetLife Stadium. Mark Sanchez was good, completing 13 of 23 passes for 169 yards and a TD. He also threw one interception. Jeff Cumberland caught the TD, a 23-yarder. Geno Smith sat out the game with a sprained ankle that he suffered in the preseason opener. Most of the damage done by the Jets came in the 2nd half when they outscored Jacksonville 27-0. Kahlil Bell rushed it 11 times for 29 yards and two TDs. Jets kickers were also 3 of 3 from field goal range including a 54 yard kick from Nick Folk. Next up for the Jets is the Giants at MetLife on Saturday night.
8-11-13: Mark Sanchez went 10 of 13 for 125 yards, a TD and a pick in the Jets 26-17 loss to the Lions in their preseason opener. Rookie QB Geno Smith was 6 of 7 for 47 yards before leaving the game in the 3rd with an ankle injury. Greg McElroy probably had the best game of the Jets QBs, completing 11 of 19 passes for 145 yards and a TD.
7-23-13: The Jets have signed Geno Smith to his rookie contact. The 39th overall pick will get a 4-year deal at around $5 million.
7-10-13: The New York Jets have moved on from the Tim Tebow fiasco, but have yet to separate themselves from Mark Sanchez. It could now be Broadway Geno’s show in 2013, as the Jets face a brand new identity with their rookie quarterback, new running back Chris Ivory and a defense no longer featuring stud corner Darrelle Revis following a trade.
6-12-13: After a complete disaster of a 2012 season that included the Tim Tebow circus, a butt fumble and Darrelle Revis and Santonio Holmes succumbing to knee injuries, pretty much anything the Jets do in 2013 will have to count as progress. Fans would probably prefer if Mark Sanchez wasn’t the starting quarterback, though, and with the Jets drafting Geno Smith in the 2013 NFL draft they may get their wish. The Tebow circus has also left the building with the Jets releasing the QB. He has since signed a deal with the division rival New England Patriots.

12-4-12: The Jets at 5-7 may have already dug their own grave but an easy final four games has left the playoff door open for them. The Quarterback controversy they have endured all year has now widened to a three horse race. Greg Mcleroy came in for Mark Sanchez last week and lead a scoring drive and many Jets fans are hoping Sanchez never gets back on to the field again. With a winnable game in Jacksonville the Jets will have to win out the rest of their schedule and hope for losses to the teams ahead of them.
