Special Events

Denton Main Street Association's 16th Annual Wassail Fest

What is Wassail? It is just a fussy old English word for hot cider. Downtown merchants will stir up their best recipe to give free tastings for all ages during the festivities of the annual Denton Holiday Lighthing Festival on Friday, Dec. 5th. This year, the fun for the tasting event is expanding to Saturday, Dec. 6 from 2 to 6 p.m. - in case you don't make it around to all the stops on Friday night. Merchant participation will vary on each day, so make it a Wonderful Wassail Weekend and come sip and stroll through downtown. See the list of Wassail Stops below.

The Saturday Wassail Fest activities will include: great wassail tasting, shopping and dining in downtown’s businesses, musicians and choral groups in various locations around downtown and at wassail stops, and a visit and photo opportunity with Santa in front of “Bonnie”, a 1960’s retro camper courtesy of Denton Design Company. Bring your camera! Santa will be at the corner of Oak and Locust in front of the courthouse.

The public can cast their vote for their favorite Wassail on Friday evening during Denton’s annual Holiday Lighting Festival, OR on Saturday during the expanded Wassail Fest between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.. Ballots will be available at all participating Wassail Stops and may be dropped at ANY ballot box at ANY Wassail Stop. Those who turn in complete ballots are eligible for door prizes from participating merchants. Also, watch for contests on Facebook on Friday night and Saturday.

Plan ahead and download a Wassail Stop list, you can get a ballot and cast it at any Wassail Stop. Look for WASSAIL STOP signs to know who is serving that evening or day. Download a map to help you get to each stop.

The Denton Holiday Lighting Festival is Friday, Dec. 5th from 5:30 to 9 p.m. - for a full festival schedule, visit their website at www.dentonholidaylighting.com
