- Complex arrangements like the US/China agreement on climate change i...nitiatives make easy targets for politicians. They can pick out the 2025 commitment by the US to reduce carbon emissions and China's seemingly less ambitious commitment to level out by 2030 and play on the obvious disparity. Doing so they chose to forget that China's economy is rising sharply like ours did before climate change became an issue. Our economy is mature and ready for such changes. China's isn't. We need to embrace global initiatives like this one, and we need a level of understanding beyond cheap political rhetoric. See More

The relationsh ip between the group and the retail giant is so close that it operates an office in Bentonvill e, Arkansas, where Walmart is headquarte red.
“Environmental Defense Fund released its ‘Catch Shares Design Manual: A Guide for Fishermen and Managers’ to provide a roadmap to catch share design, which is a focus of our Marine Conservati on initiative ,” according to the Walton Family Foundation .
A catch share, also known as an individualfishing quota, is a transferab le voucher that gives individual s or businesses the ability to access a fixed percentage of the total authorized catch of a particular species.
“Fishery managementsystems based on catch shares turn a public resource into private property and have lead to socioecono mic and environmen tal problems. Contrary to arguments by catch share proponents – namely large commercial fishing interests – this management system has exacerbate d unsustaina ble fishing practices, ” according to the consumer advocacy group Food & Water Watch.
