Logien Franklin recently claimed the gold medal in the 100-meter dash at the TAAF Games of Texas at College Station. Franklin, competing with the IBTT Track Team of Denton, posted a time of 10.5 to win the event and qualify for the 2015 State Games of America in Lincoln, Nebraska. Franklin, a soon-to-be sophomore at Guyer High School, also was a member of the 4x100 relay team that finished second.

A standing-room-only crowd packed the stands for the second performance of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association rodeo at the North Texas Fair and Rodeo on Saturday night at the North Texas Fairgrounds.

Leigh Loewenstein, a soon-to-be sixth-grader at Crownover Middle School, set a new state record in the 50-yard freestyle in the 9-10 girls division at the TAAF State Championships last weekend in College Station. Loewenstein, swimming for The Colony Aquatic team, posted a time of 28.39 seconds in the event, breaking the previous record of 28.69, set in 1999. Loewenstein also captured gold in the 25 butterfly and the 25 freestyle.
Baseball: Jackson traded to M’s
Ryan grad Austin Jackson was part of a blockbuster, three-team trade that brought former Cy Young winner David Price to the AL Central leading Tigers. Jackson was traded to the Seattle Mariners as part of the deal.
