A 43-year-old woman was charged with abandonment after she left her two children home alone Friday.

Police said she left a 7-year-old girl and an 8-year-old boy at their apartment in the 2500 block of Charlotte while she went to work.

Officers located the girl outside the residence who told police that her mother had gone to work and left her and her brother home alone.

Reports show the officer was able to locate the little girl’s brother several blocks away at the home of his aunt and uncle. He showed up there because he was hungry, according to police.

The mother, police said, showed up at the department an hour and a half after the two children were found by officers.

She was taken into custody and booked for abandoning a child with intent to return, reports show.
