The death of a 12-year-old Lewisville boy Friday night is under police investigation.

Capt. Dan Rochelle said police were dispatched to a mobile home park in the 1700 block of Bunker Hill Lane after two cousins were struck by a Nissan Sentra.

Eric Lozano, 12, was pronounced dead at 7:11 p.m. at Medical Center of Lewisville due to crash injuries to the head and chest, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s website.

His 10-year-old cousin was not seriously injured, police said.

After preliminary investigations, police found that the driver of the car was a 16-year-old girl who was told she could start it and was learning basic driving skills from her father. She suddenly put the car in reverse and accelerated on the gas, and the car pinned the 12-year-old to a mobile home, Rochelle said.

The teenager did not have a driver’s license, he said, but she was learning on private property. Rochelle said the two cousins were walking down an inter-road of the mobile home park when the car struck them.

Police said they don’t believe foul play was involved.

“It appears to be truly an accident,” Rochelle said.

The accident case is still active and will be presented to the Denton County District Attorney’s Office for further review, police said.
