(1090 The Fan) – The Seattle Seahawks have invited students from the Marysville-Pilchuck High School and Oak Harbor High School football teams to practice at the Seahawks’ training facility.
Seahawks’ head coach Pete Carroll extended the invitation to both teams following a deadly school shooting at Marysville-Pilchuck High School that claimed the lives of three students.
“Our hearts just opened immediately to try to help in any way that we can,” Carroll said in a press conference Monday.
Oak Harbor High School had a scheduled playoff game with rival Marysville-Pilchuck on the day of the shooting. Oak Harbor forfeited the game and took second place in WESCO North behind Marysville, according to KING 5.
Carroll spoke about Oak Harbor’s decision to forfeit Monday, calling it “an extraordinary gesture.”
“I think it’s a gesture in every direction and an understanding and compassion that’s good to be recognized. And we hope we can do whatever we can in our support, our fans’ support. You feel so helpless, but we wish that we could do something to ease the pain of all the people that have been troubled.”
The Marysville-Pilchuck Tomahawks will practice at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center Tuesday.
