Wild Blog: Bouncing Back In Boston

Whew! I’m not sure how the rest of you Wild fans are doing today, but I’m feeling a bit worn out.

Monday night felt like a big hit to the gut with that pathetic performance by the Wild in the third period at Madison Square Garden. I mean, the Wild were up 3-0 going in to the third period and all of sudden I was watching a train wreck. We let New York score 5 times and take the game away.

Let’s not even think about the number of minutes we spent on the power play. OK, we have to think about it — 14 minutes and no goals. Two Rangers players were kicked off the ice and we had 5 minutes with an extra guy on the ice, twice, and still no goals! In fact, right now we’re dead last in the NHL on the power play with no goals in 26 attempts. If Coach Yeo and the rest of the Wild team can’t get this figured out, we will be in big trouble and I think you’ll see more teams do what New York did. They’ll go after our skill guys knowing they won’t have to pay for it.

Now on to Boston, I can’t say enough about how great it was to see the Wild battle back to win that game. Once again the team started strong, but ended up in the 3rd period down two goals. Enter Zach Parise, who got the scoring started with an amazing feed from Mikael Granlund. Just 2 minutes later Justin Fontaine tied it up and 8 minutes later Marco Scandella got the go ahead goal and the Wild never looked back. They kept up the pressure and controlled the puck. It was just what this team needed after a horrible 3rd period the night before.

Next up for the Wild, the Sharks at home on Thursday at the Xcel Energy Center, where the team has yet to lose a game. Let’s Go Wild!
