Summary
The Borrowing Reserves & Laptops Policy of the UNT Libraries describes the patrons’ borrowing privileges, loan periods, and fine rates for reserves and laptops.
Definitions
- Library Patron: an individual who is eligible to use the UNT Libraries.
- Reserves: any material placed on reserve as required or recommended reading for a course. Calculators, headphones, and phone chargers are also considered reserves materials. These materials have a shorter loan period than regular circulating materials.
- Loan Period: the time period that an item can be checked out to a library patron.
- Library Use Only: an item status which indicates that the item must be used in the library building.
General Borrowing Guidelines
All reserves and laptops are available on a first come, first served basis and may not be placed on hold. They must be returned to the service desk from where they were originally checked out. Reserves and laptops must not be returned to a book drop. Some reserve items are designated as library use only. Providing a UNT ID card is required for borrowing laptops.
Reserves with loan periods under 24 hours
1. UNT Students and Community Members
- Loan period: 2 hours, 4 hours, 6 hours, or 24 hours
- Renewals allowed: No
- Checkouts allowed: 4 items
- Fines rate: $1.00 per hour, $100.00 maximum fine
2. UNT Faculty and Staff including retirees
- Loan period: 2 hours, 4 hours, 6 hours, or 24 hours
- Renewals allowed: No
- Checkouts allowed: 4 items
- Fines rate: No fines
Reserves with loan periods more than 24 hours
1. UNT Students and Community Members
- Loan period: 3 days, 7 days, 21 days
- Renewals allowed: No
- Checkouts allowed: 4 items
- Fines rate: $1.00 per day, $100.00 maximum fine
2. UNT Faculty and Staff including retirees
- Loan period: 3 days, 7 days, 21 days
- Renewals allowed: No
- Checkouts allowed: 4 items
- Fines rate: No fines
Laptops and laptop chargers
1. UNT Students
- Loan period: 24 hours
- Renewals allowed: No
- Checkouts allowed: 1 laptop, 1 charger
- Fines rate: $5.00 per hour for laptops, $1.00 per hour for chargers, $100.00 maximum fine
