Mississippi Beaches Status Update:
ALL BEACHES ARE OPEN.

BEACH CLOSURES:

  • 2017-01-03 until further notice - BEACH CLOSURE as a result of a sewage bypass near the following location(s): From South Lang Avenue to Runnels Avenue. The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) issued this precautionary beach closure because of a sewage leak caused by electrical failures at a lift station near South Island View Avenue that the city has repaired.

BEACH ADVISORIES:

  • 2017-01-05 until further notice - WATER CONTACT ADVISORY as a result of probable high bacteria levels at the following location: the beach area including Harrison County station 11 ([EPA:MS501920] Gulfport East Beach near near Cowan/Lorraine Road, Gulfport). The extent is from Tegarden eastward to Anniston Ave.

Note: Swimmers are reminded that the Beach Task Force has a standing recommendation that swimming not occur during or within 24 hours of a significant rainfall event.
