The training will help to assure that testing personnel have the basic training necessary to safely and accurately perform patient testing waived under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988. After viewing this training module, participants will understand that waived testing can produce inaccurate results and that these results could adversely impact patients. There are many things they can do, however, to minimize the risk of inaccurate testing. The learning objectives itemize several specific things that the participant will be able to do as a result of this training.

Objectives

By taking this course, the learner will be able to:

  • Identify the basic requirements for performing waived testing.
  • Identify at least three good laboratory practices for preparing the laboratory or testing site to produce high quality test results.
  • Recognize the importance of promoting a healthy lifestyle, including the appropriate use of screening tools.
  • Identify at least two good laboratory practices that assure the right sample type is obtained from the correct patient.
  • Identify patient samples that are labeled correctly.
  • Identify at least two good laboratory practices for testing.
  • Identify at least two good laboratory practices for recording and reporting results.
Continuing Medical Education for Physicians (CME)

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME®) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention designates this educational activity for a maximum of 1.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Continuing Education designated for Non-physicians. Non-physicians will receive a certificate of participation.

Continuing Nursing Education (CNE)

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is accredited as a provider of Continuing Nursing Education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. This activity provides 1.3 contact hours.

IACET Continuing Education Units (CEU)

CDC has been approved as an Authorized Provider by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET), 1760 Old Meadow Road, Suite 500, McLean, VA 22102. CDC is authorized by IACET to offer 0.1 ANSI/IACET CEU’s for this program.

Continuing Pharmacy Education (CPE) 

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education.

This program is a designated event for pharmacists to receive 0.138 CEUs in pharmacy education. The Universal Activity Number is 0387-0000-20-0008-H05-P.

Certified Public Health (CPH)

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is a pre-approved provider of Certified in Public Health (CPH) recertification credits and is authorized to offer 2.0 CPH recertification credits for this program.

Continuing Education Contact Hours (CECH) in health education by the National Commission for health Education Credentialing, Inc.
