Short-Term Energy Outlook
Jan 12, 2021
The January STEO remains subject to heightened levels of uncertainty because responses to COVID-19 continue to evolve. Reduced economic activity and changes to consumer behavior in response to the COVID-19 pandemic caused energy demand and supply to decline in 2020. The ongoing pandemic and the success of vaccination programs will continue to affect energy use in the future.
Proved Reserves of Crude Oil and Natural Gas in the United States, Year-End 2019
Jan 11, 2021
According to its Proved Reserves of Crude Oil and Natural Gas in the United States, Year-End 2019 report, EIA states that in 2019 proved reserves of natural gas in the United States declined 2%—the first time natural gas reserves have declined since 2015—and proved reserves of oil increased by a slight amount (0.1%) from the 2018 level. Proved reserves of oil and natural gas had risen annually in the United States by at least 9% in the previous two years.

U.S. Energy Atlas
Jan 4, 2021
The U.S. Energy Atlas is EIA’s new web-based mapping tool, which features detailed energy infrastructure and enhanced navigation and data accessibility features. The available map layers, based on EIA data, include locations of power plants, coal mines, oil and natural gas wells, pipelines, storage facilities, natural gas processing plants, refineries, and other types of energy facilities. Some of the most notable new features include new energy infrastructure maps and disruptions maps and an open data catalogue. The U.S. Energy Atlas provides enhanced access to useful energy infrastructure information through open source data and interactive web map applications.
Quarterly Coal Report (QCR)—Third-Quarter 2020
Jan 4, 2021
U.S. coal production during the third quarter of 2020 totaled 135.8 million short tons (MMst), which was 17.9% higher than the previous quarter and 25.2% lower than the third quarter of 2019. Third-quarter 2020 U.S. coal exports (15.3 MMst) increased 3.2% from the second-quarter 2020 level and decreased 30.5% from the third-quarter 2019 level. U.S. coal imports in the third quarter of 2020 totaled 1.3 MMst. All data for 2019 and previous years are final. All data for 2020 are preliminary.
Quarterly Coal Distribution Report (QCDR)—Third-Quarter 2020
Jan 4, 2021
The Quarterly Coal Distribution Report (QCDR) provides detailed U.S. domestic coal distribution data (excluding waste coal and imports) for third-quarter 2020 by coal-origin state, coal-destination state, mode of transportation, and consuming sector. Quarterly coal distribution data for all quarters are preliminary and will be updated in the corresponding Annual Coal Distribution Report.

Monthly Biodiesel Production Report
Dec 31, 2020
Monthly national and regional biodiesel production data for October 2020. In addition to biodiesel production, data included producer sales, producer stocks, and feedstock inputs.
Natural Gas Monthly
Dec 31, 2020
In October 2020, for the sixth consecutive month, dry natural gas production decreased year over year for the month. The preliminary level for dry natural gas production in October 2020 was 2,758 billion cubic feet (Bcf), or 89.0 Bcf/d. This level was 7.1 Bcf/d (-7.4%) lower than the October 2019 level of 96.0 Bcf/d. Despite this year-over-year decrease, the average daily rate of dry production was the second highest for the month since the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) began tracking monthly dry production in 1973.

International Energy Portal updates
Dec 23, 2020
The International Energy Portal now includes complete annual datasets through 2018, and many annual datasets are available for 2019 as well. In addition, EIA has begun releasing annual data when available, rather than at the end of each year. You can also now access monthly updates for petroleum and other liquids production for all countries and for energy consumption for countries within the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.
This year, we prioritized redesigning the original International Portal to improve usability. In response to customer feedback, the new International Energy Portal includes several new features to meet customer needs. For example, not only can you view data in physical units and British thermal units of energy content, but you can also view data in units such as Terajoules (TJ) and million tons of oil equivalent (MTOE). All of the previous features (such as world energy overviews, rankings, and country analysis) are also available.
