Country-Specific Information:

  • The government of the Republic of South Sudan has implemented enhanced screening and quarantine measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19.  Travelers should be prepared for travel restrictions to be put into effect with little or no advance notice. U.S. citizens who are considering returning to the United States should utilize available commercial flights

Entry and Exit Requirements:

  • Are U.S. citizens permitted to enter? Yes.
    • Most airlines have resumed flights to and from Juba, including Ethiopian Airlines, Kenyan Airways, Ugandan Airways and Fly Dubai. You should check with airlines to confirm frequency and any transit requirements.
  • Is a negative COVID-19 test (PCR and/or serology) required for entry?
    • The government of South Sudan requires a negative COVID-19 test or a “COVID Free Certificate” produced by a healthcare practitioner which is dated within 96 hours of arrival in country in order to enter South Sudan.
  • Are health screening procedures in place at airports and other ports of entry?

Movement Restrictions:

  • Is a curfew in place?
  • Are there restrictions on intercity or interstate travel?   But reducing movements other than essential travel is encouraged.

Quarantine Information:

  • Are U.S. citizens required to quarantine?
    • The government of South Sudan requires that travelers to South Sudan quarantine for 14 days upon arrival.
    • Upon arrival to Juba International Airport, a local contact phone number is required that will be used to make follow up calls to check for any emerging symptoms.

COVID-19 Testing:

  • COVID-19 testing is available for those with symptoms in South Sudan, however it is limited due to a shortage of testing kits. Travelers arriving in South Sudan will receive a test if they exhibit active signs of COVID-19 infection. COVID-19 testing is available through the South Sudan Rapid Response Team by calling 6666 or by presenting to a health facility.
  • COVID-19 testing is available but limited for outbound international travelers who need a negative COVID-19 certificate for arrival to their destination. The Med-Blue Laboratory in Juba is the only authorized private testing facility in South Sudan.   The Med-Blue facility is located in the TECNO building in Juba.  Testing is available 7 days a week, 8:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. The facility accepts walk-ins, or you can call +211 92 388808 to request an appointment.  Cost for the test is between $115-$150.

COVID-19 Vaccination:

  • The United States Government does not plan to provide COVID-19 vaccinations to private U.S. citizens overseas. Please follow host country developments and guidelines for COVID-19 vaccination.

Transportation Options:

  • Are commercial flights operating?
    • A number of carriers have resumed flights to and from Juba, including Ethiopian Airlines, Kenyan Airways, Ugandan Airways and Fly Dubai. You should check with airlines to confirm frequency and any transit requirements.
  • Is public transportation operating?
    • Facemasks are required to be worn on public transportation.
