DOT Privacy Policy

In its mission to ensure a safe, efficient, accessible and convenient transportation system that meets our vital national interests and enhances the quality of life, the Department of Transportation (DOT) collects, accesses and uses significant amounts of data every day.  The DOT is committed to protecting the safety of all data throughout the system development lifecycle, but is especially aware of the risks associated with the collection, use, storage, and sharing of personally identifiable information (PII).  To help manage these risks, the Senior Agency Official for Privacy (SAOP) has issued policy and supplemental guidance to ensure that the DOT fulfills its commitments to protect the personal privacy of all individuals.
