Geotechnical Data Services

Over many years of exploration on tribal lands by the oil and gas industry, Tribes have obtained access to large amounts of digital seismic reflection data. The Geotechnical Data Services team maintains these seismic datasets stored at the DEMD office in Lakewood, CO. This data consists of both 2D and 3D surveys acquired from the early 80s to present day. Tribes do not own the data, but have an arrangement with companies where they can use the data internally and to promote their reservation lands to industry.

All of this data is available to oil and gas companies or other investors who are interested in exploration and developing new reserves on Indian lands. With written permission from the Tribe (which can be obtained by DEMD), a company may view and interpret seismic data prior to commitment.

How To Access Data
You may contact the following individuals for access:

Access Options
There are two options for access, depending on the licensing agreement the respective Tribe has with a company or a seismic data broker.

The first option is to view the data in the DEMD office in Lakewood, CO, either on a workstation or on a print version of the data. Interpretation and notes can be made, however the data cannot leave the DEMD office.

The second option is to check out a copy of the digital data for a set period of time. This requires a confidentiality agreement be signed with DEMD. The data must be returned to the DEMD office.  All copies of the data must be removed from the computers of the company checking out the data.

Seismic data may include field and/or processed data.  Please refer to individual maps for details regarding what data products are available.

Due to the volume of data available, some reservations may have multiple maps.
