  • The Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs partnered with the Houston Police Department in 2017 to train the Patrol Police of Ukraine’s new Crowd Control Units, and to send Houston detectives to train the Salvadoran Homicide Investigation Team (HIT).. Regarding Ukraine, because of the training - provided both in Houston and Ukraine - the new Ukraine Patrol Police are increasingly taking over crowd control functions from the old and universally unpopular Berkut forces in 12 major cities..   • The INL Bureau partners with the U.S Border Patrol- Rio Grande Valley Sector to implement the Border Integration and Coordination Center (GCIF), a Salvadoran multi-agency task force supporting DHS and U.S. state and local law enforcement to identify, arrest, or deny entry to gang members.. GCIF officials, originally deployed to McAllen, Texas, conduct research and report information to DHS and relevant law enforcement for further action..   • Since 2017, INL has partnered with the University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNT-HSC) to combat human trafficking by building DNA capacity in the region..   • INL has partnered with the Texas Department of Public Safety (TxDPS) since 2014. In 2018, TxDPS trained Guatemala National Police in defensive tactics and basic pistol training in Texas.. TxDPS conducted a Field Training Officer course for Morocco’s General Directorate for National Security (DGSN) and assessed the Haitian National Police’s (HNP’s) ability to effectively use command and control practices in operational environments, with a focus on public demonstrations and crises..   • Michael & Susan Dell Foundation (headquartered in West Lake Hills), Saath Charitable Trust, Brick Eagle, Indian Housing Federation (IHF), DBS Affordable Housing Pvt. Ltd., and Micro Housing Finance Corporation Ltd. (MHFC) were recognized for their partnership “Griha Pravesh.” The partnership was one of five finalists for the 5th annual P3 Impact Award in 2018. They engaged YLAI Network members to reinvigorate Argentina’s entrepreneurial spirit, and promoted the establishment of the Small Business Development Centers (SBDCs) in Argentina. Rangel International Affairs Fellowship Programs encourage applications from minority groups historically underrepresented in the U.S. Foreign Service, women, and those with financial need. Each fellowship provides financial assistance towards the completion of a two year master’s degree in a field related to the Foreign Service, academic funding, mentorship and two internships – one in the U.S. and the other abroad at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate. Fellows commit to a minimum of five years in the Foreign Service.   • The proposal on “Migration, Inclusion, and Diversity in Texan and Chilean K-12 Schools and Local Communities: MID Texas-Chile Project,” presented by Universidad Alberto Hurtado (Chile) and Texas State University San Marcos was awarded a 2018 grant from the 100,000 Strong in the Americas Innovation Fund..   • In 2015, U.S. Embassy Buenos Aires, along with the binational U.S.-Argentina Fulbright Commission, launched the Friends of Fulbright Undergraduate Student Exchange Program.   • Since 2002, U.S. Embassy Montevideo, along with the binational U.S.-Uruguay Fulbright Commission, has supported the Teacher Exchange program, a public-private partnership that has sent 425 public teachers and principals to the United States for a three-week program to take courses, visit U.S. classrooms, and share with U.S. colleagues. The program has been administrated by TIEC (Texas International Education Consortium) in Austin, Texas.   • University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (U.S.) with Instituto Tecnológico de Matamoros, (Mexico) are developing a collaborative project focused on agroindustry, automotive industry, energy, and information and communication technologies with the assistance of the 100,000 Strong in the Americas Innovation Fund..   • The U.S. Fulbright Commission awarded scholarships to 30 Peruvians to travel to the United States to participate in different programs at 24 U.S. universities..   • In April 2018, the President of the Universidad Católica del Norte (Chile) led a delegation of seven professors and project directors in different fields (mathematics, English, educational informatics, philosophy and English language) on a visit to Texas Tech University..   • Texas A&M University -Texarkana and Universidad Autónoma de Bucaramanga (Colombia) created a program where students participate in and develop community based environmental/energy experiential stations. Collaborating institutions will work with the community so that this will help serve as a foundation to develop similar programs.   • In 2015, U.S. Embassy Buenos Aires, in cooperation with the U.S.-Argentina Binational Fulbright Commission and the private sector, launched the Friends of Fulbright Undergraduate Student Exchange Program. This Public-Private Partnership sent 50 undergraduate students to study in the U.S. for six weeks in its inaugural year in 2016. Another 145 students traveled in 2017, and 289 students participated in the 2018 cohort. In the 2017 and 2018 cohorts, Argentine undergraduate students went to the following campuses across the United States..   • The U.S. Department of State selected the Petroleum Equipment Suppliers Association (PESA) to create course content for the U.S. Department of State Foreign Service Institute’s Oil and Gas course. The PESA's Foreign and Civil Service Officer Energy Industry Training Program, created in 1993, trains foreign service officers responsible for oil and gas issues stationed in American embassies. PESA member companies offer their facilities and personnel to teach the officers every facet of the energy industry, from seismic to refining. The three-day session utilizes site visits, plant tours and panel presentations as well as visits to industry-supported educational facilities such as the Houston Museum of Natural Science Weiss Energy Exhibit. – More: http://www.nrel.gov/
