On February 12, 2013, the Novateca program, a cooperative endeavor of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, USAID, the Government of the Republic of Moldova and IREX, inaugurated the first Regional Training Center in Leova District Public ...Library. The U.S. Embassy in Moldova’s Deputy Chief of Mission Kara Mcdonald delivered opening remarks and stressed the importance of libraries as they work together with their users to invigorate and enable their communities with new tools and new ideas. This is the first launch in a series of inaugurations in 12 districts across Moldova selected to take part in Novateca pilot network. Regional Training Centers will provide professional development opportunities for librarians from district and region, free internet access and information services for local population. In addition to provision of computers and equipment, Novateca will build capacities of library staff to ease the implementation of new library approaches and the use of new technology in the library. In 2013, Novateca will work with 68 district and village libraries in 12 district of Moldova, in the field of library modernization and community development.See More
