Analyze Data

Interactive NSDUH State Estimates

Interactive NSDUH State Estimates (or Small Area Estimates (SAES)) allows users to review historic NSDUH Small Area Estimates and create US maps and trend graphs using interactive data visualizations. The data can also be downloaded in CSV format.

Public-use Data Analysis System (PDAS)

PDAS is the online analysis tool for SAMHDA publicly-available data. This tool allows users to review study variables, run crosstab analyses, perform logistic regressions, and download the results of any analysis to CSV format.

Restricted-use Data Analysis System (RDAS)

RDAS is a user-friendly application for online analyses to create and output crosstabs from your web browser. RDAS allows users to analyze restricted data, which includes certain geographic identifiers, like state, while suppressing results that may present disclosure risks. Only NSDUH data are currently available. With RDAS, you can see values by state, using datasets from 2002 to 2017. You will have access to the same visualizations as PDAS, in addition to crosstabs.

Research Data Centers (RDCs)

SAMHSA has partnered with the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) to host restricted-use National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) data at their Federal Statistical Research Data Centers (RDCs). RDCs are secure facilities that provide access to a range of restricted-use microdata for statistical purposes. SAMHSA is the most recent federal partner to work with NCHS in making NSDUH restricted-use microdata available to approved researchers at RDC sites.

Eligible researchers may now apply for access to these data.
