Washington, D.C. (Aug. 17, 2020)—Today, Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney, the Chairwoman of the Committee on Oversight and Reform, issued the following statement after Postmaster General Louis DeJoy agreed to the Committee’s request to testify on Monday, August 24, 2020.

“I’m pleased that the Postmaster General will testify voluntarily before the Oversight Committee on Monday about the sweeping operational and organizational changes he has been making to the Postal Service.  I also look forward to receiving his production of documents and other information by this Friday in response to the detailed request I made last week with Speaker Pelosi, Leader Schumer, Chairperson Lofgren, and Senate Ranking Members Peters and Klobuchar.  The American people want their mail, medicines, and mail-in ballots delivered in a timely way, and they certainly do not want drastic changes and delays in the midst of a global pandemic just months before the election.”

On Friday, August 14, 2020, Chairwoman Maloney, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer, Chairperson Zoe Lofgren of the Committee on House Administration, Ranking Member Gary C. Peters of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, and Ranking Member Amy Klobuchar of the Senate Committee on Rules and Administration, sent a detailed, ten-page letter to the Postmaster General with a one-week deadline to produce a host of key documents and information relating to these matters by Friday, August, 21.

In addition, the Chairman of the U.S. Postal Service Board of Governors Robert M. Duncan has agreed to testify next Monday.  The Board of Governors “directs the exercise of the powers of the Postal Service, directs and controls its expenditures, reviews its practices, conducts long-range planning, approves officer compensation and sets policies on all postal matters.”

The hearing is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 24, 2020, in room 2154 Rayburn and will be livestreamed.
