Adoption of Genetically Engineered Crops in the U.S.

This data product summarizes the adoption of herbicide-tolerant and insect-resistant crops since their introduction in 1996.

The tables below for corn, cotton, and soybeans provide data obtained by USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) in the June Agricultural Survey for 2000 through 2016.

Many people are interested in information about global genetically engineered (GE) acreage. USDA does not collect these data. Estimates are produced by the International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-biotech Applications (ISAAA) and can be found in the report, 20th Anniversary (1996 to 2015) of the Global Commercialization of Biotech Crops and Biotech Crop Highlights in 2015.
