The World Trade Center (WTC) Health Program Seeks Nominees for the Scientific/Technical Advisory Committee (STAC)

The World Trade Center (WTC) Health Program is requesting nominations for candidates to serve on the Scientific/Technical Advisory Committee (STAC). At this time the Administrator is seeking nominations for members fulfilling the following categories:

  • Occupational physician who has experience treating WTC rescue and recovery workers;
  • Environmental medicine/environmental health professional;
  • Toxicologist;
  • Epidemiologist;
  • Occupational physician;
  • Representative of WTC responders; and
  • Representative of certified-eligible WTC survivors.

Appointments to the STAC are for up to 4 years. The frequency of committee meetings is determined by the Administrator of the WTC Health Program based on program needs. Selection of members is based on candidates’ expertise and qualifications to contribute to the accomplishment of the committee’s objectives. Self-nominations are acceptable. Nominations are due by November 20, 2020. Further information on how to submit nominations is available in the Federal Register Notice.

Upon request from the Administrator, the WTC Health Program STAC provides recommendations on research, the addition of health conditions to the List of WTC-Related Health Conditions, and eligibility criteria for the WTC Health Program. They also review and evaluate changes to the policies and procedures for the addition of health conditions to the List of WTC-Related Health Conditions, as well as make recommendations on identifying peer reviewers for when the Administrator seeks to add a health condition.

The WTC Health Program is administered by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), and provides medical monitoring and treatment for responders at the WTC and related sites in New York City, Pentagon, and Shanksville, PA, and survivors who were in the New York City disaster area.

Self-nominations are acceptable. Nominations for membership on the STAC must be received no later than November 20, 2020 and must include the following information:

  • Complete contact information (telephone numbers, mailing address, e-mail address)
  • Current curriculum vitae;
  • The category of membership (environmental medicine or environmental health specialist, occupational physician, pulmonary physician, representative of WTC responders, representative of certified-eligible WTC survivors, industrial hygienist, toxicologist, epidemiologist, or mental health professional) that the candidate is qualified to represent;
  • A summary of the background, experience, and qualifications that demonstrates the candidate's suitability for the nominated membership category; and
  • At least one letter of recommendation from a person(s) not employed by HHS. (Candidates may submit letter(s) from current HHS employees if they wish, but at least one letter must be submitted by a person not employed by an HHS agency (e.g.,CDC, NIH, FDA, etc.)
