NIOSH has established outreach and education partnerships to support the needs of multiple WTC Health Program populations. Our partners provide information about the WTC Health Program and assist in the recruitment of eligible responders and survivors through culturally and linguistically appropriate educational materials during various outreach efforts.

Below is a list of the outreach and education projects currently underway. Included in the list is a description of each project along with the name of the organization, their Web address, and contact inormation in case you are interested in current and future outreach and education efforts.

9/11 Environmental Action
9/11 Environmental Action (9/11 EA)'s outreach project will use innovative social networking techniques, short upbeat videos, as well as traditional grassroots outreach methods, to reach 9/11-affected residents, students and area workers, referred to as WTC survivors. 9/11 EA will utilize its relationships and networks within the NYC Disaster Area to disseminate information about the World Trade Center Health Program, who is eligible and how to apply. 9/11 EA will closely partner with the survivor organization, StuyHealth, to reach a population of former students, now young adults, locally and nationally. Both organizations will offer enrollment guidance.

FealGood Foundation, Inc.
FealGood Foundation Outreach & Education (FGF OnE) will assist First Responders in the NYC area and other identified areas of need who may have been injured, physically or mentally as a direct result of their rescue, recovery and clean-up efforts at the World Trade Center site. FGF OnE will conduct four large events to assist in registering responders in World Trade Center Health Program.

Hispanic Federation
Hispanic Federation (HF) is the nation’s premier Latino nonprofit membership organization who will be supporting and providing outreach and education to English and Spanish speaking survivors affected by the September 11, 2011 terrorist attacks in NYC. Their mission is to empower and advance the Hispanic community. HF will work to increase knowledge of World Trade Center Health Program and provide education those who may require guidance on the eligibility process.

Voices of September 11th
Voices of September 11th (VOICES) provides a wide range of support services and programs to address long-term needs of those impacted by 9/11. The plan for outreach is broad-based and uses proven engagement techniques, direct-contact printed materials, web-based activities and social networks as well as community-based and corporate presentations, conferences and forums. The plan targets outreach to companies, organizations, local residents, and subgroups such as parents, immigrants, seniors, retirees and children.

FealGood Foundation, Inc.

Under the NIOSH contract, the FealGood Foundation ("FGF") will assist First Responders, construction workers, nurses, sanitation workers, transportation workers and volunteers within the United States who may have been injured, physically or mentally as a direct result of their rescue, recovery and clean-up efforts at the World Trade Center Site following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. In order to assist these individuals, the FGF will conduct a 12 city tour throughout the United States to educate WTC responders and survivors on health conditions related to their WTC exposure, and provide assistance in enrolling them for medical monitoring and treatment services under the World Trade Center Health Program.

Direct Engagement of Responders and Survivors: Sanitation Workers, Immigrant Workers, Day Laborers, and Hard-to-Reach Union Members--this project will directly engage individuals through one-on-one engagement directed at members of workers' centers, individual day laborers, non-union workers, and union members. We will focus on immigrant workers with varied literacy skills and workers employed in sanitation, both union and non-union. Establishing one-on-one contact with these individuals through their organizations and working to ensure that they understand their potential benefits, how to apply to the program, and are guided through the application process itself is the critical next phase of this project.

Single Stop USA

Single Stop USA is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to helping low-income individuals achieve financial self-sufficiency and economic mobility. Single Stop USA will use its extensive network, screening tools, and community outreach capacity to identify and connect individuals who were affected – directly or indirectly – by the WTC attacks to WTC Health Program resources; help guide those individuals through the application process; and connect them with healthcare treatment and monitoring programs for 9/11-related conditions.

Tuesday's Children: First Responder Alliance Outreach and Education

Through the First Responder Alliance (FRA), Tuesday's Children provides programs and services to about 1,300 rescue and recovery workers, and their families, impacted by the events of September 11, 2011. These services are also offered to the entire population of about 70,000 World Trade Center first responders. With this cooperative agreement, they will conduct outreach and education about the WTCHP and provide community-centered, skill development workshops; resource seminars; and mental health services for first responders, and their families, to reduce stressors that adversely influence family dynamics.

District Council 37, World Trade Center Health, Outreach and Education Program

District Council 37 (DC 37) AFSCME will conduct a multifaceted outreach and educational program to inform potentially eligible members (rescue, recovery and cleanup workers), area workers, and residents about the World Trade Center (WTC) Health Program funded by the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act of 2010. The program involves multiple and simultaneous coordination of outreach projects, including but not limited to materials/video/audio development; a lower Manhattan poster campaign; live presentations to members and other potential enrollees; one-on-one member counseling; and promotion of the WTC Health Program via social media, radio, TV and any other platform available to DC 37, AFSCME, and affiliates. DC 37 will also target workers, volunteers, residents, and area workers who may be eligible to enroll in the national program.

International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) Plan for World Trade Center Outreach and Education

The IAFF is a non-profit labor organization that represents about 300,000 professional fire fighters and emergency medical personnel throughout the United States and Canada. IAFF members from around the country responded to the collapses of the World Trade Center towers during the days, weeks, and months following the 9/11 terrorist attacks. IAFF members, engaged in extensive rescue and recovery operations at Ground Zero, Pentagon and Shanksville crash sites. Through existing communication channels, social media, and national conferences, the IAFF will conduct outreach and education efforts to inform members about the services offered by the WTC Health Program and encourage them to enroll.

Outreach to 9/11 Survivors and Disaster Relief Volunteers

The 9/11 Environmental Action (9/11 EA) project will utilize innovative social networking techniques, web-based film clips in English, Spanish and Chinese, and traditional outreach methods, to reach as broad a population as possible. The project will disseminate information about who is eligible for World Trade Center (WTC) Health Program membership for the Survivor Program (including the Pediatric Program), the Responder Program or the National Program and provide guidance on how to enroll. 9/11 EA will closely partner with the survivor organization, StuyHealth, to reach a population of former students, now young adults, locally and nationally. The project will focus mainly on survivors, but includes a significant component of outreach to 9/11 disaster relief volunteers. 9/11 EA will collaborate with the Ground Zero Fellowship to reach a responder population of affected disaster relief volunteers, locally and nationally.

Using Well-Established Local and National Networks to Reach WTC Responders and Survivors including the Hardest to Reach

This project will conduct an outreach program to reach survivors and responders, both locally and nationally, who are eligible for benefits under the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act of 2010. NYCOSH will use an extensive network of local and national organizations, and individuals, built over many years to reach eligible survivors and responders on a national and local level, including hard-to-reach populations such as immigrant workers and survivors. NYCOSH will establish a webpage with information about the WTC Health Program; hold meetings with potentially eligible populations; develop and disseminate material about the program and establish a telephone information service.

World Trade Center (WTC) Health Program Outreach and Education Plan

Inner City Fund (ICF) International and the National Disaster Interfaiths Network (NDIN) will develop and implement an outreach and education strategy created with input from representative members of the 9/11 affected community and response agencies, including state and local government liaisons. Primary activities of the outreach and education project include: 1) coordination with the CDC/NIOSH and other cooperative agreements, of communications and events related to the services of the WTC Health Program Outreach and Education 2) development of culturally and linguistically appropriate and effective outreach information and education materials specifically targeted to recipients of the 9-11 Unmet Needs Roundtable, nationally based behavioral health, faith based and other volunteer responders; and 3) dissemination of print and electronic materials via face-to-face contacts, community meetings, informational forums (national and local), regular mail and social media.
