HHS Agencies Working with Tribes
The US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and American Indian and Alaska Native tribes share the goal to establish clear policies to further the government-to-government relationship between the federal government and tribes. The Indian Health Service (IHS), an agency within the HHS, is responsible for providing federal health services to American Indians and Alaska Natives. Other HHS agencies have established offices and resources to support the shared goal of eliminating health and human service disparities among American Indians and Alaska Natives, ensuring that access to critical health and human services is maximized, and advancing or enhancing their social, physical, and economic status.
