Workforce Recruitment Program 2021 Database

The Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP) released its 2021 database. The WRP database contains applications from more than 2,500 qualified college students and recent graduates with disabilities from 380 campuses nationwide who seek summer or permanent employment in federal agencies. Anyone with a federal government email address can register to use the database at www.wrp.gov. Federal employers who already have a WRP account can log in directly. Everyone is Schedule A eligible, and employers can search the database to find applicants with the specific skills they need. The WRP is managed by the U.S. Department of Labor and the U.S. Department of Defense.

Accommodations for Respiratory Impairments

The Job Accommodation Network (JAN) will host a webinar on "Accommodations for Respiratory Impairments" on January 12, 2021, from 2:00-3:00 p.m. ET. The webinar will explore common situations and solutions involving respiratory impairments and address accommodations and technology in a work setting.

Competitive Integrated Employment in 2020

The Employment First Community of Practice held a webinar on "Competitive Integrated Employment in 2020 - Consumer and Provider Perspectives," which is now available for viewing. This webinar shared stories about how people with intellectual and developmental disabilities have adapted to employment changes during the COVID-19 pandemic so they can continue to work. It also outlined ways employment services providers have changed their job development and job coaching strategies.

ASPIRE

The Office of Disability Employment Policy launched the Advancing State Policy Integration for Recovery and Employment (ASPIRE) initiative to assist states in aligning policy, programs, and funding across multiple state agencies to increase competitive integrated employment for people with mental health conditions. Competitive integrated employment works in community settings where most employees have no disabilities and are paid directly at the greater of the minimum or prevailing wage. ASPIRE will support states using evidence-based practices, such as the Individual Placement and Support model of supported employment.

EARN Newsletter

The Employer Assistance and Resource Network on Disability Inclusion (EARN) published its December 2020 newsletter. The newsletter features three new EARN resources, including a "Research to Practice" tool and two checklists for employers. The checklists are "CAPs in Practice," focusing on centralized accommodation programs, and "Accessible and Authentic Interviews," discussing standardizing a company's interview process.

Telework Accessibility and the Law

The Partnership on Employment & Accessible Technology released "Telework Accessibility and the Law." This resource helps employers better understand legal obligations on telework under the Americans with Disabilities Act. It also provides employer and employee resources on implementing digital accessibility, accommodations, and assistive technology.
