EERE Success Story—FEMP Assists White House in Setting GHG Reduction Target for Federal Government

Earlier this year, EERE’s Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP) provided key data and analytical support to the White House Council on Environmental Quality to determine the government-wide greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction target. As the scorekeeper for federal agency energy performance data, FEMP is uniquely positioned to project the government’s future path in a clean energy economy. In its support to the White House, FEMP assessed the GHG mitigation impact of achieving the key goals for 2025 contained in the Executive Order (EO) including:

EERE Success Story—FEMP and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Partner to Drive Down Federal Energy Costs

With hundreds of thousands of facilities and vehicles spread across the globe, the United States government is one of the world’s largest consumers of energy. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and the U.S. Department of Energy's Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP) developed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) partnership to help drive down the federal government's energy costs through the government-wide adoption of performance contracting processes.

EERE Success Story—Rule to Support Increased Energy Measurement and Efficient Building Design

In 2014, EERE’s Federal Energy Management Program issued a final rule that requires verified energy and water performance for new and retrofitted federal buildings that are certified by private sector green building certification systems.

The use of green building rating systems advances federal high performance buildings by focusing on modernization, and integrated building systems that minimize inefficiencies and waste, as well as enhance cost-saving benefits.
