Gang Unit Supervision

Who Should Attend

This two-day class is intended for officers who are currently or soon to be assigned as supervisors in gang units. Although this curriculum is designed for personnel who operate against street gangs, security threat group supervisors are accepted on a space-available basis.

  • Policies and Procedures—importance of establishing a consistent set of policies and procedures for a gang unit

  • Personnel Issues—personnel issues faced by gang unit supervisors

  • Performance Measurement—purpose and use of performance measurement practices in a gang unit

  • Logistics and Security—organizational placement and physical housing of law enforcement gang units

  • Multijurisdictional Approach to Gangs—common issues involved when developing and implementing a multijurisdictional approach to regional gang problems

  • Intelligence Resources and Technology—gang intelligence and technological resources available for gang investigations

  • Suppression Strategies and Tactics—strategies and tactics that can be used to suppress gang activity
