SEP 50001 logo - US DOE

Facilities or organizations that achieve sustained excellence using their energy management systems (EnMS) may get certified to the Superior Energy Performance 50001™ (SEP 50001™) program and achieve elevated levels of DOE recognition.

Find out more about the SEP 50001 program at the Better Buildings Solution Center.

To certify and get recognized, facilities implement an energy management system that meets the ISO 50001 standard and demonstrate improved energy performance. An independent third party conducts an audit to verify achievements. Entities that exceed certification requirements can use the Scorecard to achieve DOE recognition at the Silver, Gold, or Platinum level.

Organizations are encouraged to use SEP 50001 (2019), the 2019 program version (learn about the program update and name change).
