A NOVEL UNIT OPERATION TO REMOVE HYDROPHOBIC CONTAMINANTS

Doshi & Associates, Inc. โ€“ Appleton, WI

A vacuum air flotation process will be developed to remove small particles of pitch and adhesives in paper mill processing to improve energy efficiency and reduce water consumption and sludge production. The technique employs a vacuum system to generate bubbles of air and CO2 that will float pitch and adhesive particles to the surface where they can be removed inexpensively. The project team will demonstrate batch and continuous prototype systems.
