School Health Summits Teach Education Stakeholders
Georgia hosted school health summits to provide professional development opportunities on nutrition and physical activity with school staff and other school health stakeholders in funded districts.

They're feeling deeply inspired after that talk

The Georgia Department of Public Health’s Chronic Disease Prevention Section convened school health summits in funded districts to offer professional development with a variety of stakeholders that promote good health and support healthy behaviors in schools, early child care and education facilities, work sites, and businesses.

The Georgia Department of Public Health worked with three public health districts (South, Southeast, and Coastal) and a coalition of other state partners, public agencies, and nonprofits to coordinate the summits.  The state partners supplied summit participants with toolkits and guides, moderated workshops, and provided keynote speakers.

Impact

From 2016—2018, the Georgia Department of Public Health and its partners held 7 school health summits with about 250 participants, representing 31 counties from the funded districts.

The school health summits trained participants, including teachers, school principals, nutrition directors, school administrators, school nurses, and family connections coordinators, on nutrition and physical activity topics to improve health and education in their districts.

This program was supported by CDC’s State Public Health Actions to Prevent and Control Diabetes, Heart Disease, Obesity, and Associated Risk Factors and Promote School Health cooperative agreement (DP13-1305).
