The National Cyber Strategy was implemented to increase the security and resilience of the Nation’s information and information systems. This task has the following key priorities:
- Secure Federal networks and information.
- Secure critical infrastructure.
- Combat cybercrime and improve incident reporting.
This strategy enables the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to secure Federal department and agency networks. To accomplish its key priorities, the National Cyber Strategy both outlines actionable priority tasks and acknowledges the need for further comprehensive policy development.

As the Energy Sector-Specific Agency, U.S. DOE is responsible for securing the Nation’s energy infrastructure. CESER plays an essential role in preparing for cyber incidents, as well as responding to incidents when they occur. The role of CESER, as outlined in the National Cyber Strategy, is to work with U.S. DHS to coordinate and unify the national response effort in the event of a cyber incident.
