The Securing the Information and Communications Technology and Services Supply Chain Executive Order recognizes an urgent need to protect key elements of the Nation’s infrastructure from cyberattacks. This order dictates that any technology or services designed, developed, manufactured, or supplied by a foreign entity may have the potential for risk. Any acquisition of such technology or services is prohibited unless otherwise permitted via measures negotiated by the Secretary of Commerce.

As the Energy Sector-Specific Agency, U.S. DOE is responsible for securing the Nation’s energy infrastructure. Under the Securing the Information and Communications Technology and Services Supply Chain Executive Order, U.S. DOE is tasked with working alongside the Secretary of Homeland Security to assess hardware, software, and services from foreign entities that might present vulnerabilities.
