The 22nd International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2018)
Experts from CDC’s Division of Global HIV & TB will participate in the 22nd International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2018) in Amsterdam, Netherlands from July 23-27, 2018. AIDS 2018 is the world’s largest conference on any global health issue – where scientists and influencers come together to build momentum around the latest developments in HIV-related research. With the theme, “Breaking Barriers, Building Bridges,” AIDS 2018External serves as a platform to highlight innovative, data-driven approaches to accelerate reaching those at greatest risk for HIV with treatment and prevention. As the primary public health agency for the United States, CDC plays a crucial role in measuring and advancing progress towards controlling the HIV epidemic. CDC’s Division of Global HIV & TB leaders, experts, and partners will present over 70 oral and poster abstracts that highlight their latest work as part of these efforts.
CDC will co-host a satellite session on Sunday, July 22 with Ambassador-at-Large and U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator Deborah Birx, MD and representatives from ICAP at Columbia University, UNAIDS, and Ministries of Health who will discuss preliminary results from the HIV population-based surveys in Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, and South Africa, and the implications for HIV epidemic control efforts. Additionally, CDC and partners will present several abstract-driven presentations on various topics, including the Namibia HIV population-based survey results, expanding HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis among key populations, and strategies to help more people learn their HIV-positive status and link them to treatment.
