International Experience and Technical Assistance (IETA) Program
Due to COVID-19, the IETA Cohort 2020 assignments were canceled and have been postponed to 2021. Therefore, there will be no new IETA 2020/2021 cohort as the program staff will continue to work with the current cohort.

Are you looking for an outstanding opportunity to gain experience in international public health work? Then, the International Experience and Technical Assistance (IETA) training program may be for you!
The International Experience and Technical Assistance (IETA) program is a developmental training program for Federal public health employees offered by the Center for Global Health (CGH) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia. Specifically, IETA is a professional development/technical assistance program that takes place over a 12-month period. It consists of attendance at three (3) workshops in Atlanta, Georgia (3-4 days each) and a supervised short-term (12-week minimum) overseas assignment with an international public health program. All cohort participants serve overseas between January and August in one of the 50-plus countries where CDC has an overseas presence.
For 20 years, CDC has provided meaningful global health experiences to over 360 federal public health professionals. A 2013 alumni survey found that as a result of participation in IETA, alumni felt better able to apply their public health skills overseas, more culturally competent, and better able to negotiate international travel logistics. Following their IETA experience, 40% took additional short-term overseas assignments, 18% accepted a long-term U.S.-based global health assignment, and 14% accepted a long-term overseas assignment.
