Energy Department Announces Winners of Housing Innovation Awards

The U.S. Department of Energy presented the 2015 Housing Innovation Awards to 24 industry leaders last night during the Energy and Environmental Building Alliance's Conference in Denver, Colorado. This distinguished recognition is being provided to 27 winning DOE Zero Energy Ready Homes, where the awards showcase the very best in business excellence required to deliver high-performance homes.

Energy Department Announces State Energy Program National Evaluation Results

The Energy Department announced today the results of a major national evaluation during a typical year in the State Energy Program (SEP) operations, as well as during the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) period. The results reaffirm the Energy Department's long-standing commitment to drive economic development and reduce carbon emissions at the state level. 

The purpose of the study was to develop independent key outcomes for program year 2008 and the ARRA time period from 2009–2013.

Energy Department Unveils 3D-Printed Building; New Initiatives During Industry Day

The Energy Department announced several new and exciting innovations and programs during Industry Day held at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) in Tennessee Sept. 23-24. This included unveiling a 3-D printed building with integrated energy storage via bidirectional wireless power transfer to and from a vehicle, revealing the first-round winners of ORNL’s crowdsourcing competition to advance innovative building technology ideas, and announcing a new open innovation program between ORNL and four industry partners.

New Report Shows Domestic Offshore Wind Industry Potential, 21 Projects Planned in U.S. Waters

The Energy Department today released a new report showing strong progress for the U.S. offshore wind market—including the start of construction of the nation’s first commercial-scale offshore wind farm, one of 21 projects totaling 15,650 megawatts (MW) in the planning and development pipeline. Of these 21 U.S. projects, 13 projects totaling nearly 6,000 MW—enough to power 1.8 million homes—are in the more advanced stages of development, while 12 projects with more than 3,300 MW planned have announced a commercial operation date by 2020.

Energy Department Awards $22 Million to Support Next Generation Electric Machines for Manufacturing

As part of the Administration’s effort to increase energy efficiency and double U.S. energy productivity by 2030, the Energy Department is awarding $22 million in funding for five projects aimed at merging wide-bandgap (WBG) technology with advancements for large-scale motors to increase energy efficiency in high-energy consuming industries, products and processes, such as the transportation of fossil fuels and industrial-scale compression systems.

Today, the Energy Department announced seven organizations selected to receive $6.5 million to advance the manufacturing and installation of low environmental impact hydropower technologies. The projects will address three technical areas: rapidly deployable civil works technologies, innovative methods and materials for hydropower construction, and powertrain components.

Energy Department Announces up to $4 Million for 2017 and 2019 Solar Decathlon Program Administrator

In support of President Obama's commitment to a clean energy future, the Energy Department today announced up to $4 million in funding available to one recipient to organize, manage, and conduct the Solar Decathlon competitions in 2017 and 2019. This funding will support the Department’s commitment to improving the nation's science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education efforts, and to building a more knowledge-intensive workforce.

Energy Department Opens Competition to Select Student Teams for Solar Decathlon 2017

In support of President Obama’s commitment to a clean energy workforce, the Energy Department today announced for the first time that up to $2 million in prize money will be awarded to collegiate teams selected to compete in the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon 2017. Colleges, universities, and other post-secondary educational institutions are welcome to submit proposals, which are reviewed, scored, and ranked based on a merit review process.

Energy Department Announces $12 Million to Advance Efficient, Environmentally-Friendly Highway Transportation Technologies

The Energy Department announced today more than $12 million for nine incubator projects to develop innovative solutions for efficient and environmentally-friendly vehicle technologies that will help reduce petroleum use in the United States. The funding will go toward projects that pursue breakthrough approaches to providing Americans with greater freedom of mobility and energy security, while lowering costs and reducing environmental impacts.
