Biennial Solar Decathlon competition challenges collegiate teams to design, build, and operate houses powered by the sun that are affordable, energy efficient, attractive, and easy to live in.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) today announced the two universities selected to receive nearly $6 million to establish one or more graduate-level training programs for engineers in power electronics.

The U.S. Department of Energy presented the 2015 Housing Innovation Awards to 24 industry leaders last night during the Energy and Environmental Building Alliance's Conference in Denver, Colorado. This distinguished recognition is being provided to 27 winning DOE Zero Energy Ready Homes, where the awards showcase the very best in business excellence required to deliver high-performance homes.

The Energy Department announced today the results of a major national evaluation during a typical year in the State Energy Program (SEP) operations, as well as during the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) period. The results reaffirm the Energy Department's long-standing commitment to drive economic development and reduce carbon emissions at the state level. 

The purpose of the study was to develop independent key outcomes for program year 2008 and the ARRA time period from 2009–2013.

Today, the Energy Department announced new research and development (R&D) efforts as part of the Department's Clean Energy Manufacturing Initiative (CEMI). The Energy Department today announced two additional projects selected to receive up to $4 million to develop next-generation biofuels that will help reduce the cost of producing gasoline, diesel, and jet fuels from biomass.

In support of President Obama's commitment to a clean energy future, the Energy Department today announced up to $4 million in funding available to one recipient to organize, manage, and conduct the Solar Decathlon competitions in 2017 and 2019. This funding will support the Department’s commitment to improving the nation's science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education efforts, and to building a more knowledge-intensive workforce.

In support of President Obama’s commitment to a clean energy workforce, the Energy Department today announced for the first time that up to $2 million in prize money will be awarded to collegiate teams selected to compete in the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon 2017. Colleges, universities, and other post-secondary educational institutions are welcome to submit proposals, which are reviewed, scored, and ranked based on a merit review process.

The Energy Department announced today more than $12 million for nine incubator projects to develop innovative solutions for efficient and environmentally-friendly vehicle technologies that will help reduce petroleum use in the United States. The funding will go toward projects that pursue breakthrough approaches to providing Americans with greater freedom of mobility and energy security, while lowering costs and reducing environmental impacts.
