LM Sites
LM manages 101 sites in the United States and the territory of Puerto Rico associated with past radiological and nuclear material production and testing, and energy research — some dating from as early as the Manhattan Project. At LM sites, environmental clean-up has been completed, or treatment systems for groundwater are in place. At more than half of the sites, LM performs long-term surveillance and monitoring to make certain that remedies continue to protect public health and the environment.
Considered Sites Overview
The Considered Sites Database provides information about sites that were formerly used in the nation’s nuclear weapons and early atomic energy programs and had the potential for residual radioactive contamination. These sites have been evaluated for eligibility for cleanup under the Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program.
Historic Sites
Some LM sites have associated listings on the National Register of Historic Places in recognition of their significance in American history.
Transitioning Sites
Transitioning Sites will transfer to LM for long-term surveillance and maintenance when active remediation is complete. The Site Management Guide, which LM updates annually, includes a schedule for when it is estimated that sites will transfer to LM.
