Basics of a Part 58 Environmental Review for HUD-Assisted Projects 

This webinar is a basic orientation to HUD’s Part 58 regulations on environmental review responsibilities of Responsible Entities. This webinar is intended for an audience with no knowledge or a limited understanding of how to perform environmental reviews in the context of HUD-assisted projects.


Consulting with Indian Tribes about Historic Properties in Environmental Review - June 21, 2012

This webinar showcases tools, required protocols, and best practices for effective and efficient tribal consultation. Responsible Entities must consult with Indian tribes when reviewing a project that might affect historic or prehistoric properties of significance to tribes. HUD has tools to aid in the process including a new tribal consultation protocol; an enhanced on-line Tribal Directory Assessment Tool (TDAT) that identifies where tribes have a current or ancestral interest; and new guidance on when to do archeological surveys. Responsible Entities, Environmental Officers, officials working with NSP grantees, and others will find this webinar very valuable.

Tribal Consultation about Historic Cultural and Religious Properties in Section 106 Review of HUD Projects - August 15, 2012

This webinar is intended for THPOs and tribal governments only and showcases the new tools and protocols and explains how Responsible Entities (REs) are expected to consult with tribes about historic properties in Section 106 review of HUD projects. It is of interest to tribes and Tribal Historic Preservation Officers who are invited to consult by REs, and to tribes who sometimes serve as REs for projects on tribal lands.

This webinar presents an overview on site contamination, including what it is, why it must be addressed, when it must be evaluated, and how it is evaluated. The webinar provides information on how to conduct due diligence.


Environmental Justice at HUD: Why, What, and How - August 29, 2012

This webinar explores the Department's process for Environmental Justice analysis in detail. Terminology is explained. A broad process is offered. Expectations and goals of public participation and mitigation are presented. Actual projects are combined with illustrative examples to show how HUD considers Environmental Justice within its environmental review process. The intended audience is HUD grantees and staff, but consultants, environmental professionals, and community residents can find informative the issues that define "decent, suitable housing."
