Park NAGPRA oversees the National Park Service’s (NPS) NAGPRA compliance responsibilities, provides technical and compliance assistance to all national park system units throughout the United States, and works to ensure that available funds are used to support NAGPRA needs and activities servicewide. The program is located in Denver, CO at the Intermountain Region Office but is part of the Cultural Resources, Partnerships, and Science Directorate in Washington, DC.

Each of the seven NPS regions has designated at least one person to serve as a regional NAGPRA coordinator. The regional NAGPRA coordinators do not report to Park NAGPRA, but work very closely with Park NAGPRA staff to meet their NAGPRA compliance requirements. Technical advice, guidance, and training are available to all NPS staff through Park NAGPRA. Staff may either contact Park NAGPRA directly for assistance or work through their respective regional NAGPRA coordinators. Generally, parks will interact directly with tribes on NAGPRA issues such as consultation, though Park NAGPRA will provide assistance as needed.
