Who We Serve
Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) skills are required to be competitive in the global race for energy development, to create and maintain a healthy economy, and foster innovation and excellence. The Department of Energy has many programs, internships, scholarships, and research opportunities focused on developing the next generation of STEM professionals. The Office of Minority Educational Institutions (MEI) works with the Departments internal and external stakeholders to expand and improve opportunities for minorities in the STEM fields.
How We Serve
Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs) qualify to serve minority populations through the Department of Education. They are unique both in their educational missions and in their day-to-day operations.
We foster partnerships and serve to advocate for MSIs by engaging the Department's program offices, laboratories, and field sites to establish business relationships that include research opportunities, grants, or cooperative agreements. The success of each of these partnerships are measured by the increased capability of the minority students and faculty to compete effectively in the STEM workforce.
