The
NIST OWM
program promotes uniformity in U.S. weights and measures laws, regulations, and standards to achieve equity between buyers and sellers in the marketplace
to enhance consumer confidence in the marketplace, enable
U.S. businesses to compete fairly at home and abroad,
and strengthen the U.S. economy.
The Office of Weights and Measures (OWM) Contacts System is a U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) system managed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)
to provide Weights and Measures Officials; Industry Representatives; National Work Group (NWG) Members; and the public with a system for registering for
OWM training classes and for requesting,
downloading, and/or reviewing a wide variety of weights and measures technical materials and publications. Users may also use the system to update their personal information or to access their
personal training history. Users may also use the system to participate in working group activities, including commenting on proposed revisions to laws, regulations, standards, international
recommendations, NIST handbooks, and other documents.

The collection of this personally identifiable information (PII) is authorized under the National Institute of Standards and Technology Act, as amended, 15 U.S.C. 271, 272 et seq.
The
OWM protects PII against unauthorized use or disclosure and safeguards the collection, access, use, disclosure, and storage of PII in accordance with the 1974 Privacy Act (1974),
the E-Government Act (2002), the Federal Information Security Modernization Act (2014), policy and guidance issued by the Office of Management and Budget, and NIST’s Privacy Statement/Security

The information collected may be retained by the
OWM indefinitely. Disclosure is also subject to the uses listed in the
DOC Privacy Act System of
Records Notices: “Information Collected Electronically in Connection with
DOC Activities, Events, and Programs;” and “Accounts Receivable.” This statement may be updated without prior notice,
