DOCR Reports First COVID-19-related Death of a Resident

The North Dakota Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (ND DOCR) reports the death of an incarcerated individual who was COVID-19 positive. The individual, in his 60s, tested positive on November 16, was admitted to a Bismarck hospital due to progression of symptoms on November 25, and passed away on December 4.

ND DOCR Experiencing Increase in Positive COVID-19 Cases

Routine surveillance testing conducted this week by the North Dakota Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (ND DOCR) has revealed an increase among staff and residents who are currently positive for COVID-19. As of October 16, 2020, active positive cases totaled 80 (37 staff, 43 residents). This represents a net increase in positive cases of 54 (12 staff, 42 residents) from the last week. No staff or residents are currently hospitalized due to COVID-19.

In this case, individuals who had recently tested for COVID-19 reported not being able to log into the provided link to retrieve their results. The issue has been resolved, and the NDDOH and North Dakota Information Technology are monitoring the situation.

NDIT to provide free anti-malware software to K-12 schools

North Dakota Chief Information Security Officer Kevin Ford announced today that anti-malware software is available to all K-12 schools in North Dakota at no cost. NDIT is able to provide installation, licenses and self-service access for schools due to enhanced capabilities and a unified, statewide approach to cybersecurity strategy. Previously a small fee was required per device; however, that requirement is being removed due to increased threats tied to the pandemic and more widespread virtual learning.


ND Emergency Commission approves extending child care grant program through December pending Budget Section approval

On Aug. 3, the North Dakota Emergency Commission approved the Department of Human Services’ request for an additional $12 million in remaining Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act funding to again extend the state’s Child Care Emergency Operating Grant program. WIC program announces new income levels for eligibility

Income eligibility guidelines for the North Dakota Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) have increased based on changes in the federal poverty levels.  The change increases the amount of income a family can make and still qualify for services. Effective June 1, 2020, a family of four can earn up to $4,040 each month (or $48,470 annually) and meet the new WIC income eligibility requirements.

State Parks Announces Reopening of Campgrounds

The North Dakota Parks & Recreation Department announces the reopening of state park campgrounds. Highway Patrol Sees Increase in Speeding Citations over 10 mph

The North Dakota Department of Health (NDDoH) today reported the first confirmed death of a North Dakota resident due to COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus. The death occurred in a man in his 90s from Cass County who had underlying health conditions and acquired COVID-19 through community spread, meaning the source of infection was unknown.

Ton Mile Fee Refund Process

On March 24, 2020, Governor Doug Burgum signed an Executive Order removing spring weight restrictions on state highways. This order will result in purchasers receiving a refund on permits for ton mile fees on spring weight restrictions for loads starting on or after March 24. Haulers who purchased an oversize permit with a start date of March 24, 2020 or later, that incurred ton mile fees due to spring weight restrictions will automatically receive a refund.
